My scheduled shipment date for my new Quad is 11/17/05. (I ordered it the first hour they posted on the website.) I check every day several times to see if Apple will offer the GeForce 7800 GT as an option. If they do, do I cancel my order and re-order with the 7800? What would be the latest you would do this?

I assume doing this would drop you in the production que and you may not see your Quad until December. I need my now. . .I have a lot of film rendering to do.

If you're in a hurry, it might be worth your while to get the G5 ASAP and buy the 7800 when it comes out. It would cost a bit more, but you'd get to work sooner.

The 7800 GT is now available through the Apple store on BTO PowerMacs, for an additional $350. I think I'll be placing my order Real Soon Now.

But hey, I'm just happy to see it in the store finally... I can wait. I've been waiting since WWDC, so what's a few more weeks?

Agreed. I've been holding off as well, just waiting for this to show up. Ordering a Quad today.

I just called Apple to change my order and interestingly, while the 7800 is available as a new option, it is not as a change option. The guy I talked to see he would call me right back but that was two hours ago. . . .

The website now shows 6-8 weeks if you choose the 7800 option and I cannot get Apple to return my change order request. I guess it is best to stay with 6600 option ofr now and switch out later.

i called last night and changed my order for the new card. delayed my shipping to on or before 12/23 whereas it was 11/17 before. didn't have any problem updating the order (or cancelling and reordering in actuality).

I finally got a call back from Apple. They indicated they would switch me to the 7800 but push my delivery back to 12/19 or 32 days. I decided to get my Quad with the 6600 on 11/17 and maybe next year upgrade.

Damn.. I want a 7800.. But here in my country will be like 500 dollars or so... Maybe I should buy the quad with 6600 and wait a little bit to change the video card
