I've read various comments about Xbench in the past.
Compare my figures against those posted above for a system which I think is the same spec apart from differences in OS version 10.4.2 to 10.4.3 and memory 3GB to 2.5GB and then try and explain the 13.3% difference in overall scores, especially given the closeness of the various category scores. I've re-ran Xbench without the disk test, whilst downloading a few files in Safari, so this is only an approximation, but my score is around the 160 mark. So it looks like there's a overly large emphasis on disk scores in the overall figure. And finally to close a screenshot of the CHUD processor usage when running Xbench. Draw your own conclusions... http://homepage.mac.com/jasonhh/PhotoAlbum3.html Last edited by jasonhh : 2005-11-10 at 19:37. |

I can't see some of you people ordering with the 7800. Wouldn't you rather have the machine now and get the 7800 when they are available aftermarket? I doubt they will be much more than $350 anyway... esp. if the next round of cards come out that will spank them! I'm going to order tonight since it seems as if people are starting to get the machines! I should have it before Xmas!

I actualy think the 7800 cards will be much much higher than the 350 upgrade price. Remember, the 350 bucks is for an upgrade, so your already spending money on the 6600...In the accessories page in the apple store, the older 6800 Ultra is still almost 500 dollars, I can't imagine apple offering the 7800(a much much better card than the 6800) for anything less than that. I may be wrong, but this is the reason I'm ordering the 7800 built in instead of afterwards....that extra 150-300 dollars can buy a nice chunk of RAM or another HD! the wait times still suck ass though!

On november the 8th I ordered a Quad with a 7800 GT... the shipping date was jan. the 5th!
Today I cancelled this order and made another one for a Quad with the standard 6600... now the shipping date is dec. the 8th. I may buy a better graphic card later... |

After finding out I could have gotton an ADC discount of 20%, I too cancelled my order of BTO quad with 7800.
I have reordered with the 6660. Apple is still quoting 6-8 weeks for 7800, and 3-4 weeks for Aperture and the Quad. I don't think Apple has any idea when the 7800 will be available. Very helpful Apple sales lady told me that a lot of people are canceling the 7800 order and reordering with the 6600. I suggest you all order with the 6600 and purchase the 7800 later, as 6-8 weeks is the best estimate, as I doubt these are even in production... REgards |

The 7800s must be in production, because I just got a call informing me my box went into 'build' mode and should be here within a week.

I ordered mine as soon as the 7800 was available as a BTO/CTO option (within a few hours of it showing up), and my ship date is listed as "on or before" Dec. 23, but now I'm wondering if perchance it will ship sooner than that... :smokey: |

709, When did you place your order again?..............I am hoping since it seems so many people have started to cancel their orders for the 7800, that maybe I'll get bumbed up in the production line!! Plus, appleinsider.com said a couple weeks ago that the quad and the 7800 are in final testing and should ship the first batch of them by mid november, I guess only time will tell, but 709 seems to have the first proof of this, I hope its true man, I really really do!!!!!!!!!
here is that link....http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1346 |

Honestly, I held off ordering until the 7800 was 'officially' available. I didn't go through the Apple Store though...and I'm not going to say where I ordered, as these guys pulled a lot of strings for me and I don't want to get anyone in hot water if they strayed outside the lines a bit.
So it goes. |

Regarding the possibility of an earlier-than-projected ship date for the Quads with the 7800GT, my Apple EDU rep seemed pretty sure that they would be shipping earlier than the projected 6-8 weeks.
When I floated the possibility of changing my video card to the 6600 to speed delivery he said that I should hang tight. I would sure like to have it show up before Boxing Day, but we'll see.... JT |

When I spoke with apple today about switching to the 6600, the rep told me apple would not be selling the 7800 as a standalone upgrade for a long long time if not ever, and she as well assured me that the 6-8 weeks is simply an estimate because they do not know at this point how soon they can ship them. But I along with you JCT hope that these reps are right!

My Quad G5 is on for December 7th.... or so the store reports. I ordered on Nov 7. It defaulted to the full 4 weeks.
12/7 is "Pearl Harbor Day" (which is bad). And also my Grandfather's Birthday (which is good). I ordered a stock unit (with 6600 display card) plus an Apple USB Modem (which - if you want it - you have to order at the same time - doesn't come seperately). Questions (from those who got one - or knows theirs has shipped) Anyone with a stock order get surprised by how early theirs came in? Also, for US orders, does it say where the G5 Quad was assembled? Is it Ireland? - or Taiwan? - Iraq? Just curious! |

My quad G5 is on it's way. Just got the email. And guest what, true believers: It's Early! Up until today, my approximated ship date was Nov. 21.
On my specs: I have the stock 6600 card (because I couldn't wait), 4 gigs of ram (nonEEC), and dual 500 gig hard drives. I hope to upgrade to the 7800 in the future. (And find it highly unlikely that apple will _never_ offer it as a stand-alone product. After all, they offer all of their other video card -- including Nvidias -- as solo items ... And, most importantly, there's money to be made off all us folks!) |

I agree with beeel2000. The 7800 will definately be available seperately in the future. Apple suggests that you can...
http://www.apple.com/uk/powermac/graphics.html 1. Eight 20-inch or 23-inch Apple Cinema Displays can be connected to the Power Mac G5 using four NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics cards. Since they're not offering 4 cards on the store options I imagine you'll be able to purchase another 3 6600 cards through the apple store by giving them a phone. I'm sure that the 7800 will be the same. You may find that they're not currently available as they need most of their current supplies to pop in the new build to order machines. Once the demand for the new Quad G5 calms, yes, you'll see them being made available seperately. |

709. Did you receive your quad with 7800 yet - only 2 days till the week is up?
My stock ships in 3-4 weeks, but if the 7800 starts shipping I may change my order - again! Cheers |

So...
Who actually has their Quad G5 in the UK apart from jasonhh? My shipping date says on or before 25th November but with 9 days to go it's not looking too promising. A few mentioned their date was on or before 17th November. That's obviously tomorrow so I was simply wondering if your order is showing as 'shipped' at the Apple Store UK? It's now exactly 4 weeks since I placed my order on 19th October at 6.51pm and I honestly can't wait! Last edited by Leftofsix : 2005-11-16 at 09:32. |

Spoke to my apple sales rep again today, and Apple has not given her team any information regarding this delay. She said that the ETA is still 6-8 weeks.
So I eagerly await news of 7800 having shipped. Regards |

I did get my new refurbished 30" yesterday. I have never seen one (the local CompUSA store only stocks the 23") and I guess I was a little surprised at the size. So was my wife that had no idea I ordered the 30". She called to tell me yesterday that my computer arrived and when I told her it was a monitor, I heard the phone dropped. I went to bed very late last night after I made sure she fell asleep. I am in the dog-house for now. |
