Give me a heads up when you do Brad. I would like to raid some of the sandstone (exposed due to sand mining) at -1760,-320 and the lava pool at -1600, -800 (both top northern chunks).

Better start raiding sooner than later! I plan to blow chunks later this week.

Started raiding the lava pool. However, I think the 3rd level ribbon board is going to be a resource hog due to the additional animation.
I'll need some feedback from the server gods on my effect on the load. Formerly known as cynical_rock censeo tentatio victum There is no snooze button on a cat. |

As a favor to sachmo our newest member, and in order to preserve areas in the northeast to not interfere with my aesthetics, I plotted together a map overview for his first building area (click for big).
As you can see I'll extend the skyway to my strip mining operation, and eventually to the island home (no minecart tracks planned at the moment). I marked out a likely starting location worth investigating with a torch lit column located roughly on the map. For your island purposes I would use that sandy area to the north/northwest. There's plenty of caves up there for mining purposes. There's a hut at the strip mining area and a natural cave on the western edge of the red box that can be used to start out. I should be on tomorrow to give you an overview of the area and available resources to get you started. The protected areas encompass my future home (-960,-960; -960, -1120; -1120, -1120) and the awesome National park at -1120,-1280 to -1280,-1280. For those that are worried about map size I purposely picked a chunk that will be active with future work. Formerly known as cynical_rock censeo tentatio victum There is no snooze button on a cat. Awesome man I appreciate it. You guys have this set up perfect for new people. Everyone I've seen on has been helpful and nice. I got to afk at the mob grinder while I read stuff on the forums. I got tons of gun powder gonna hit the sand and get some tnt going.
I'm going to make the necessities first with mining some resources. Hopefully by next week I'll have a water park in progress! I'm off the next two days off so I plan on being on quite a bit. Any building restrictions I should worry about? I'm not gonna have the city on my back for a poorly made sewage line, or permits? |

We have a couple of designated sand-mining areas so as not to leave unsightly scars in the world everywhere. One is directly south of town (Kitty Hawk) and another is southwest (Dry Dry Desert). Both have skyway access, so it's pretty easy to get to either one.
Another option may be if Brad hasn't deleted the chunks up north already where Ely was mining sandstone and I was TNT-mining sand one night last week. That area may be open still. About these "chunks' we talk about: Basically if the world gets too big from wandering and resource-hunting Brad will delete large areas of land from memory. The game has been laggy in the past when we've had a large world file, so trimming helps that quite a bit. The chunks are 512x512 blocks, and deleting them erases anything built or changed from their "natural" state. [edit]: This will give you a better idea. The latest world map with "unused" chunks that may be deleted: So it goes. |

I checked last night, and the chunks are still there in their altered states.
The blue/purple section of the skyway extension shown above is completed. |

Somehow this guy has the Google Maps interface working on his Minecraft server:

Our Minecraft sucks. I bet they even have Tshirts and a motto and a fight song and action figures and coffee table books and hot little blonde groupies in thongs.

Here's the current plan for chunk deletion. Unless someone objects with good reason, I'll be deleting the darkened, unsettled areas tomorrow evening.

Could you keep the chunk directly north of the UFO? Should be a couple more days until I'm finished mining up there.

Sure thing. Didn't know if you were still mining up there or not.

(Although I am slightly peeved at seeing a bridge design on their server that I was planning to build... NOW I HAVE TO CHANGE EVERYTHING) |

I was too tired last night and forgot to post this after performing the various beta 1.6.6 upgrades. Along with the upgrades, I trimmed the world as I described above. Here's a full-size map that covers the world as of ~3:30 AM this morning.

Umm, this might be interesting; I think I'm in a trimmed section. Which means you probably trimmed away everything I built yesterday too...
Yep, all gone. And the chest that was inside. Which contained my entire gunpowder stockpile. Last edited by Bryson : 2011-06-04 at 12:52. |

Started a bit of landscaping work on Mob Hill this evening.
I had long planned on eventually doing something with my backyard, because it always seemed just odd-looking to me. Anyway, my goal is to make the place look a bit more "natural" (more hill-like, that is). If anyone has any suggestions or comments, go ahead and let me know! |

The finished portal on Mob Hill:
And, since I was in the area a bit ago, I snapped a pic of the ruins of Kraetos' old mob ranch, with the regenerated Mushroom Mountain in the distance: |
