Anyone have some good workout music? Here is a sample of just a few songs I have in my most recent playlist:

The hand that feeds: NIN
She wants to move: NERD
Thank me with your hands: Panthers
Little Sister: Queens of Stone Age
Paint it black: Rolling stones
Read my mind, Somebody told me: Killers
Song for Clay, I Still Remember: Bloc party
Bombs over Baghdad: Outkast

Any good suggestions are welcome.

Eye of the Tiger: Survivor.

I used to bench to this stuff (on repeat in the CD player!) in a really dodgy Brazilian gym that was swimming in Deca.

Damn those were good days.

… engrossed in such factional acts as dreaming different dreams.

I like the Podrunner podcast from iTunes. Techno/dance remixes that last about an hour or so. Good mixes and transitions, steady bpm. Grab a few and choose the bpm rate you want for the day.

Map Of The Problematique - Muse (crazy guitar and vocals put you in the mood)
Poor Leno - Roykopp (atmospheric, moody, good for warm-ups)
Run - Snow Patrol (slow, very catchy)
In The Clouds - Under the Influence of Giants (straight up 70s fused with modern style)
Mr. Brightside (Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Mix) - The Killers (an even better version of the original)
God Is Going to Get Sick of Me - Aberdeen City (good kick drums keep this workoutable)
Taking Back Control - Sparta (this one is somewhat generic, but still good)
Where The Streets Have No Name - U2 (a classic)
Far, Far Away - Ultimate Fakebook (local 90s band)
Lights and Sounds - Yellowcard (this is also great for driving fast)
Brand New Colony - Postal Service (excellent, really gets me)
Extreme Ways - Moby (the song at the end of the original Matrix)
Numb - Linkin Park (shut up)
Atlantic - Keane (slower, dramatic and neat)
Calf - Isan (strange, slow electronic song)
Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean - Explosions in the Sky (one of my favorites, a little too slow for much besides biking)
Hunting For Witches - Bloc Party (high energy, rebellious song)
I'm Your Bass Creator - Basshunter (this Swedish electronic artist has a whole album of these types of songs)

and the best...

In the Morning - Junior Boys (techno-blip thing that is sooo damn catchy)

This is your PowerSong?!?! At least Mike Post (of Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue fame) had a hand in the composition.

Actually, in fairness, I should add to this myself. Here's a selection from my exercise mix playlist:

Panama - Van Halen
Sunless Saturday - Fishbone
Oxygene (Part II) - Jean Michel Jarre
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Gypsy Train - Toto
Won't Get Fooled Again (full length version) - The Who
No Lies - Noiseworks
Evenflow - Pearl Jam
Kalendar - The Pursuit of Happiness
Gravity - The Superjesus
One Vision - Queen
Cult of Personality - Living Colour
The Real Truth - Steve Lukather

... and you must listen to this one from the early 90s:
Sister Havana - Urge Overkill "I'm watching you and Fidel Castro in the sand - Shazam!"

+ 2 "up" songs for the home stretch when I go running:
All About Soul (remix) - Billy Joel (I like the positive message in this one)
Back in the High Life - Steve Winwood (reminds me of my younger days)

I also think that as a Power Song this one never fails to deliver:
Training Montage - Vince DiCola (from The Rocky Story) ... the CD mix is much better and the music starts at the 00:55 mark.

If you've seen the people who dance to that **** you wouldn't be caught dead playing it. It might be made in Sweden but it's only cool on in Eastern Europe.

...

I'll just cast a vote for Metallica, perhaps Enter Sandman or Die die my darlin'.

Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
I Like Big Butts - Sir Mix-A-Lot

Legs - ZZ Top
Bicycle Race - Queen

...

I never said anything about popularity, I just said that some people might want to give it a listen to work out to.

In all honesty I never listen to music when I run, it is stupid IMO. You either run hard, or not at all.

Cansei de Ser Sexy on full volume.

Aside from that anything by Death from Above 1979 is good.

These songs are on my current work out playlist. There's more by the battery in my iPod cacked out on my way to work and I can't remember the rest.

Constantines - Nighttime/Anytime It's All Right
Amps - Full on Idle
Pretty Girls Make Graves - All Medicated Geniuses
Thrush Hermit - From the Back of the Film
DJ Shadow - Organ Donor [Extended Overhaul]

My concern was also firstly about the quality.

And yeah, I don't listen to music while I run, I'd might not hear that lorry coming up from behind.

errr, old foggies like me can use a slow recovery run once a week you know. And if one is training for a half or full marathon, you're not supposed to run hard on your weekly long run.

But your point is a valid one, to a certain extent. I try to alternate running with music and without. They're both great.

My favorite running song of all time is

'Blue Sky' by The Allman Brothers Band

I also like to listen to albums or major parts thereof when I run.

Wilco
Calexico
Grateful Dead (Skeletons)
Jeff Buckley
Throw in a couple of Reggae tunes ...

For example

I like how Survivor have a Greatest Hits album. It's sorta like Hanson with their Best Of. What's the point, you only have one good song. I believe the liner notes for Survivor's Greatest Hits refers to Eye Of The Tiger as their "most well known song to date" - as if they will one day trump it.

Don't get me wrong, I love to listen to music on the go. In fact, I just got back from a big track meet where it was nice to listen to music and chill after my mile (4:56). I just don't listen while I run.

I think it might be because living in a college town you always have to be alert running on the roads, since there are always some dipshits from Western Kansas who don't know how to drive in a "city" and always end up nearly killing you while you run across the street. Headphones make it very hard to hear around you, obviously.

I love most though to come home and listen to my nice stereo and read a book.

Wow, I just tried one out. Very cool. I was in a near trance (hoho) for 30 minutes on my elliptical. The only, minor thing was 130 BPM (the lowest I saw) was a wee bit too quick. I need more like 110 to 120.

Ugh.

I would have linked to iTunes, but unfortunately they have this album on there.
