I am sure you all have seen the iPod Nano by now. After combing through Apple's website it seems like it officially replaced the iPod Mini. Being that the two (Nano & Mini) cost the same, do you think the "Student Union - Free iPod with the purchase of a Mac" applies to the iPod Nano? I read the fine print and no where it mentioned the Nano, but how would I redeem the deal (that ends 09/24/2005 I believe) if I can't add the iPod mini to my shopping cart?

Perhaps the Student Union site will get updated sometime today/tomorrow? It's really weird that they haven't updated it yet, considering that the iPod nano is all over the rest of Apple's site, including the education store.

Yeah I am going to play the waiting game. Although I was jumping out of my shoes because I had planned to buy an iBook tomorrow. Aside the iBook itself, a big incentive for me is a possible free iPod Nano!

I called 1-800-MY-APPLE and got a flat-out "No" answer whether the rebate covered the Nano

This is why Apple puts specific model numbers in the fine print on those rebate forms.

"Qualifying iPod Part Numbers: M9829/P9829, M9802/P9802, M9800/P9800, M9804/P9804, M9806/P9806, M9801/P9801, M9803/P9803, M9805/P9805, M9807/P9807, M9830/P9830, M9282/P9282, MA079/PA079"

Get the mini, sell it on eBay, and pay another few bucks for the nano.

The mini's not for sale any more. Otherwise, good idea.

Well what a bummer! Maybe when I go to the Apple Store they will still have some iPod Mini's in their inventory that they want to get rid of.

By the way pmazer, thanks for calling Apple, don't know why I didn't do that.

Yeah, most apple stores will still have some minis. However, I suppose it's possible that Apple will stop selling them in their own stores and push them out to retailers that have been successful in selling the mini (i.e., Best Buy).

Going to the apple store is still your best bet.

Also, I'd try checking the Refurbished section of the online Apple Store. At the moment, it looks like there are a ton of iPod minis on there.

Again, read small print. Refurb models not eligible.

Yeah, first thing I checked, too (wrt the nano).

Heres how it goes. I called them and asked, and the nano isn't part of the rebate, but if you still apply for the rebate, they will sell you one for the sole purpose of the rebate. I would sell it for the nano in a second, but minis have lost a TON of resale value w/ the nano. they really want u 2 BUY the nano. Sucks, don't it?

So what you are saying is that if a customer simply buys a Nano and sends in the form, he still gets the rebate. Despite they said the opposite?

I don't understand this this.

You can still buy new iPod minis at Apple's education store.

It's a text-only link on the left side, but it's still there.

Just thought I'd point that out. You don't have to worry about refurb minis not qualifying.

According to the list of eligible products, the new iPod nano in not part of it partly because it is a relatively new product, having been only on the market for about 4 days now. I think they are more inclined to get rid or their iPod mini stock before they start tapping into the nano supply. Plus, it cost them more to make the nano in the first place.

The nano is definitely not a part of the student union promo.

Buy a regular ipod, sell it on ebay and get the nano.
