Okay i've been yearning/lusting/craving the iphone ever since its release. There is just one problem. I'm a Verizon customer who gets fantastic cellular reception, and knows for a fact that in both places that I live (NC, and CA) that ATT reception is not very good. Now I am inching closer and closer to just biting the bullet, paying Verizon the cancellation fee switching to ATT and enjoying my iPhoney goodness. The problem is then I'll be locked into a 2 year contract with ATT which I know just doesn't have the quality cell reception of Verizon.
Is the 5-year exclusivity with ATT going to be a rock solid rule? Is there any chance that an iPhone for verizon could conceivably come out in the next 2-3 years? I've been putting off my decision by saying I'll wait for the 3G iphone but after that is released I don't see how I can keep myself from getting out the ole' credit card. |

This question has been posed a lot.. I think the short answer is no.

Verizon has already elected to switch to the GSM derived LTE tech for its next generation network, so no.

There's some (wild, unsubstantiated) speculation that the exclusive contract with AT&T is for non-3G phones only, and that with the first 3G phone, things will open up. I can't say if I subscribe to this idea or not, but it's making the rounds.

Ok so when Verizon switches to LTE GSM network does that mean the iphone will move to Verizon or will the exclusivity still hold

What about Japan? Don't they have a primarily CDMA network?

Correct, i'm currently doing a marketing assignment on how to market the iPhone in Japan, the lack of GSM and abundance of 3G are going to make it difficult for the iPhone to be remotely sucessful thete in its current state
