I hear alot about Final Cut Pro, but i've never really used it, and I don't know what kinds of things it can do.

Does anyone have, or know where to get, a movie made in Final Cut Pro? Is it really "Pro"? Can you make feature length films in it, and make them look professional?

Thanks.

Read the Pro section of Apple's website:

Yes, it's very much a "Pro" app. Yes, you can make very professional, good-looking films with it.

Note, however, that a brilliant film, like all creative works, can only be made by a person with a brilliant vision and editing skills, no matter how good (or bad) the tools may be.

Admittedly, Avid have the bulk of the feature film market, by dint of being there first (and many might argue, their replication in digital form of old-fashioned film editing, warts and all), but Final Cut is certainly capable of producing work as professional as an Avid system. A lot of TV companies are turning to it as a more cost-effective option than Avid.

However, Final Cut (even on a maxxed-out Quad) does not have the same grunt as a Avid Adrenaline with the DNA dedicated hardware accelerator. But then again, it is a tiny fraction of the price.

At the end of the day, you can create stuff on Final Cut to the same standard as any Pro editing system, and I think that currently, Final Cut offers the best value for money.

(And that's not just loyalty to the OS. Avid works on OSX, no problem.)
