Not sure how many people on the boards are car people, but right now www.summitracing.com is offering a really nice deal on K&N air filters.

For those that don't know, they're air filters that you don't have to throw away after x thousand miles. Instead you buy them and use them for the life of your car. They need periodic cleaning (say once every 10k miles or so) but overall they save you money.

To top it off, they offer better/increased air flow and will usually give you more power and better gas milage to boot.

Right now if you buy a filter from summit, they give you an oil filter ($12 or so) for free. For example the air filter for my wife's car was $28, and they tossed in a $12 oil filter. A regular air filter for her car would run about $10, but would have to be replaced every 6,000 miles or so. So after 18,000 miles, the K&N has paid for itself.

Just thought I'd throw it out there. Not to spam the boards with vendor whoring, but these guys are good, and it's a nice product.

I must second this recommendation, a K&N Air Filter is one of those basic upgrades anyone who's even semi-interested in their car should get. Like alci said it will save you money in the end and this is a good deal to take advantage of.

Nice tip, thanks!

Just a little too glowing, and with some "marketingspeak" littered into it. Suspicious indeed.

I'd recommend against the K+N filters. They use an oil that cam gum up sensors, making your car produce more pollution and get worse gas mileage. You clean out your sensors, but that is even more work.

Wow, don't think I could disagree more.

For example, here's 1009 reviews of their air filters. Average rating of 4.5 out of 5.

I know a lot of people who track their cars, and wouldn't consider anything that would screw up their MAF sensor. (or any other for that matter)

However I have seen dealerships that didn't want to fix legitimate problems try to blame any aftermarket add-on, including air filters, rather than fix the actual problem.
