Here's the scenario:
Sunday lunchtime, my iMac is on as normal with no problems. I'm moving house later that day, so I shutdown and unplug it ready to be boxed for the move.

Monday morning, I've unpacked the Mac and plugged it into the wall only for it to not respond when I press the power button - no startup chord, no monitor activity, no hard drive or fan noise, nothing. I know there's a button underneath and inside the machine to reset the power supply (or something like that?) which I've already done but has had no effect.

FWIW, I know there's plenty of help Google and Apple Support can give (and I've already had a cursory glance), but I'm at work and Random Grazing on the Internets is frowned upon.

Any of you lovely people have any suggestions?

Our iMac G5 just did the same thing. Will find out today what is up, my guess is power supply.

Hope it isn't that bad for you....

I would also guess PSU. Had the same problem with my G5. Took it to an Apple Store and when the tried to fix it it sparked and flame up. Scared everyone in the store. . . .

Good luck.

Now that I got a job, I can buy more Apple products!

Sounds unanimous, thank you for your posts. I rang up Amsys and they suggested it the PSU, logic board, battery as possibilities. Looks like the beloved iMac's off for a heart transplant...

How's your G5 doing Stone of Love?

Power Supply, $225 to get it fixed with only a 3 month guarantee.

Going to have them rip the HD out and trash the thing!

How hard is it to pull a HD out of an iMac?? I should be able to do it, right??!!

Yup, just look around online, it should be easy to find some instructions.
