Okay, this is really bad. I've run out of something that I really, really, really need and I'm not afraid to say it here....
I need help. What I have right now is really, really not getting the job done. It's too soft. It's too predictable. It's back to where I was when I was a kid. It's damned embarrassing. People can tell. I see them looking. They see it when I hold it in my hands... and they laugh. I know they do. Please help me. I need some Hard Science Fiction recommendations. And I need them NOW. I'm going to the bookstore sometime tomorrow and I want to go in armed with ideas. I love Agent 86. I just can't play with him in public any more. Last edited by drewprops : 2007-04-03 at 23:37. Reason: There's no way to prove that I call my penis "Agent 86". So stop now. |

So disappointed by the content of your post ... the thread title held such promise.
That said, I'm not a great Sci-Fi reader, but I did recently finish a collection of stories called Driftglass by Samuel R Delany. I thought he wrote well. |

For good Hard SciFi (including some outside of the wiki list but on mine), consider: Robert L. Forward - the Dragon's Egg series is very cool, and technically robust Quote:
![]() Hal Clement is also known for Hard SF Or maybe Iain M. Banks, or Dan Simmons. Both dense but beautiful prose in places. Larry Niven (+/- Jerry Pournelle). "Mote in God's Eye" is classic, and wins eyebrow raise from science geeks, as do most of their other works. Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke... also giants of the gee whiz but genuinely scientific. All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand. |
