Damn...makes me feel old.
Nice touch to tie it back to issue #1...of course today's magazine is a far cry from it's heydays in the late 80's and early 90's.

Ha...neat cover!

I used to love Macworld (and MacUser too)...bought 'em all the time.

Heh heh, I think I remember those porn ads...was it sealed with a perforated edge?

Yeah, I read some of those 200+ thick early editions where like you say, were packed with articles on everything from how modems worked to color offset printing. Good reading and how I looked so forward to each month's issue.
I think I may still have some early copies in my basement...

And yes, I too was a Ron Chan fan...was always amazed at his subtle blend techniques. Thanks for the link, didn't know he was still at it...looks like he's 'flattened' his illustrative style quite a bit.

Nah, I just talked about remembering the old 1-900 telewank ads in the back of MacUser and how Macworld, back in the 90's, would often feature editorial illustrations by Ron Chan, Steven Lyons and Peter Hoey (and how they kinda became my unwitting Illustrator tutors and "long distance inspirations" back when I was first getting into all this).

I got into - and pursued - Illustrator first and foremost, even over Photoshop, and I guess I have those three to thank for it.

It's Macworld, not MacWorld. Fixing another thread title...

Heck, it's even right there on your image!

Love the cover, though. That's a classic shot of Jobs right there.

It's funny how much that cover looks like it could be inside of a modern-day Apple Store, though. Light wood table, white "wall"...if the Macs were a little newer (and Jobs a little older) it could a 2008 shot instead of a 1983 one.

I wonder if we'll see any mention of the Mac's 25th anniversary at MWSF...

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

Yeah, it used to be fun anticipating and checking the stands each month for new computer mags, especially back in the day. It seemed like every issue was about something exciting and huge. That cover brings back some fond memories of my first Mac... a Mac SE. Man, did I love that computer.

Anyone else used to play The Colony on a classic Mac? That game was ahead of it's time and a lot of fun even on my little 9-inch monochrome screen. Aliens in a 3D world with pounding music... what was not to like! I saw the remains of what looked like an old Mac Plus at a flea market recently. I couldn't believe the display was ever that small.

But time marches on... it struck me the other day that my iPhone has 400 times more memory than my first Mac

I was at the magazine stands today and this issue of MacWorld caught my eye.
It seems there's two different covers for January's edition...one with Jobs, and one with MacBooks.

I wonder if Apple's decision to no longer attend Macworld's in the future prompted the change.
