The iMac has been upgraded from M1 to M3.
This also means the RAM ceiling is up from 16 to 24, which was one of my main sticking points. Other than that, some minor spec improvements, such as going from Wi-Fi 6 to 6E, and Bluetooth 5.0 to 5.3. |

Seems like a solid model now. Way more enticing to drop money on than the 2.5-year-old M1 iMac.
Because they still come with 8GB RAM across the board (yeah, yeah...I know) and 256GB SSD, to get the version I'd want (24GB RAM and 512GB SSD), it's a $2,099 BTO. A shame these things, at $1,499+ don't come, out of the box, with 16GB RAM. But I've pissed up that rope enough. I figure, in about another 3-4 years, they'll do so... ![]() At some point, they need to start better justifying these high-ass prices and not making everything a BTO adventure/outlay. Yeah, $2,100 for the iMac I'd feel totally comfortable with for years to come. Not sure I'm happy with that. Seems about $500-600 more than I'd want to pay. They'll be available as refurbs by the end of January (my birthday is January 26), with those 24/512 models to be had for the ~$1,600 range, so... I just don't like buying anything brand new anymore...cars, Macs, Fender guitars. You do better used/refurb a few months later. |

Shipping with 8GB of RAM should be a crime in 2023.
