Here lately Mail seems really slow. Now I know I'm only on a G4 1.25 Mini, but still.

I have 4941 messages in my mail boxes right now through 20 accounts (5 .Mac). While this might seen really obvious it is the fact that it has to run through all 4941 messages that it take for ever to display the messages in a given account folder? It will show something like (0 Messages, 4 New). Then after I get tired of waiting an look at a web page I'll come back and that account will show my mail and then something like (92 Messages, 4 New).

I don't want to delete some of them, though I could purge. Is it slow because it's just to bulky?
