I'm finally thinking about getting a Blu-ray player now that the prices have come down.

I'd like one that can tie into the wireless network and has an iOS app.

It looks like the Panasonic app and players are fairly popular.

Any anecdotal input you folks can share?

REMEMBER: I'm not looking for one that will make my dingaling bigger, just one that works simply and has an app... so put your high-end unit back on the shelf, Mr. Salesweasel.

I have the Panasonic DMP-BDT220, which is sort of the sweet spot in Panny's line. While it's okay, I was disappointed by how slow Netflix is in comparison to how my now-broken PS3 was. The interface is just really unresponsive, which is disappointing because the player's main use is for Netflix (but I did need a Blu-ray player too).

Unfortunately, reviews of Blu-ray players tend to focus on the Blu-ray functionality, and not the other aspects, so it's hard to know before you buy.

Interesting. I never knew they had integrated iOS apps for them, but then again, it's been 3-4 years since I've bought a Blu-Ray player. I have a Sony model and like screensaver said, the Netflix speed is unbearable compared to every other internet device I have that runs Netflix. The Interface is putrid as well. It was set up nothing like the PS3 interface, which is strange considering they are both Sony.

Screensaver400,

Do you use or have you tried the iOS app?

What do you want the iOS app for? It looks like the one for my player really just functions as a slightly more elaborate remote.

I tried it earlier today and couldn't get it to work, and a lot of reviews say the same. Apparently a firmware update to the player might help, as might tweaking some settings. I only tried for 2 or 3 minutes before I had to leave for a meeting.

I have U-verse and the remote for that is WIZARD.

I was wondering if the iOS apps were suitably nimble.

I have a Panasonic SC-BT490 that I got about 6 months ago.

The iOS app is called "Theater 2012" and it works pretty good. It's easy to use, and very responsive. I haven't used it extensively for disc playback - mostly it's volume, mute, and source selection.
