I was just looking for a log file one of my programs is supposed to create, and thought I was going nuts because I couldn't find it in /tmp. Turns out my $TMPDIR is set to something wacky: /var/folders/WX/WXSp5ODiEOGUylhOUP82a++++TI/-Tmp-/
Where is that being set? I assume this is a consequence of me doing an archive&install a few days ago, it definitely wasn't like that before. How can I get it back to /tmp? |

That's just how 10.5 uses tmpdir, AFAIK. Each user or app (can't remember which makes the distinction) gets its own directory under /private/var/folders/.

But I had 10.5 before, and I didn't even know about $TMPDIR until I had to go hunting for my temp dir. I've always used /tmp and it worked fine. It's definitely not per app, because I can access it in Terminal.

If you had upgraded previously, that's probably why it was /tmp before. In 10.5, it's supposed to be the rather odd path for security reasons.
