As SpecMode noted, instead of a non-denominational holiday celebration, we are having an all-denominational one.

Except for, like, Kwanzaa.

First up: Hanukkah! Bobsky lit the menorah:

Yay!

I'll post more pictures of the other decorations as the time comes/I get around to it. Happy holidays every buddy <3 <3

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

We don't have anything for Xmas, though. Who's going to build the maniacal Santa bot?

In recognition of the upcoming winter solstice, Brad made this super cool Stonehenge out at my peninsula south (by map) of town:

On the solstice, the sun's rays line up with the stones and shine through them beautifully. Of course, in Minecraft, the sun doesn't really shift, so that happens every sunrise! Come see it if you get the chance, it's really quite something.

Hey Robo: I know you claimed that peninsula and all but.....that Stonehenge thing is really cool. Can we keep it? Maybe make that peninsula a park like Stanley Park....

It needs a sea wall, then. And a forest. And a lagoon. And Haida totems. And it has to be a bit cruisy...

We'll see. Brad offered to move Stonehenge after the solstice, but I told him not to bother, at least for now. It'll be a while before I have the resources to build what I want to build on that peninsula anyway. But on the peninsula or elsewhere, I'm sure Stonehenge is sticking around.

For Saturnalia, grey made a giant Saturn sign.

Saturnalia is, of course, an ancient Roman festival in honor of the deity Saturn, held December 17-23. It is also considered by many to be the source of the modern Christmas gift-giving custom, so if you get awesome presents this year, don't thank Santa, thank Saturn.

Io Saturnalia!

Wait!

What's that, next to the Saturn sign?

ZOOM IN AND ENHANCE!

It's a Festivus pole!

Happy Festivus, everyone

To celebrate Christmas, Turtle made a tree:

Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad! Joyeux Noel! God Jul! That's...all I got. Hyvää joulua? Glædelig Jul? Frohe Weihnachten? Fijne kerstdagen? Hopefully I'm not swearing!

MIRRI KURISUMASU, to you and your crew.

Of course, if you're nonreligious...

...here are some other things to celebrate this December 24:
  • The Treaty of Ghent was signed, ending the War of 1812, in 1814
  • Reginald Fessenden transmitted the first radio broadcast, in 1906
  • Albania became a republic, in 1914
  • Libya became independent from Italy, in 1951
  • The crew of Apollo 8 became the first humans to enter orbit around the Moon, in 1968
  • Ricky Martin was born, in 1971
...and on December 25, there was (according to Wikipedia) "the first successful trial run of the system which would become the World Wide Web" in 1990! Maybe, in the future, December 25 will be celebrated as World Wide Web Day. Or Karl Rove's Birthday. But hopefully World Wide Web Day.

Happy Isaac-Newton-mas (1642!), you godless heathens. <3 Thanks to Brad for the awsum Flying Spaghetti Monster.
