So, here's a small oddity going on with my computer right now: whenever I download an .MP4 video file, Safari feels the need to attach a .txt file extension to it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

That means the server has its MIME types misconfigured and says .mp4 files are plain text.

See Here.
EDIT: It's worth mentioning that for some reason, unless you use the exact search I did, (MIME and mp4) that post doesn't appear. For example, MIME and txt doesn't bring it up, which you'd think it would. Last edited by Bryson : 2007-08-29 at 17:16. |

Ah. So this is the worst kind of problem, isn't it, because both sides have a valid argument.
The Internet: "MIME types are not widely used, use file extensions." Apple: "File extensions are unreliable, use MIME types." Good 'ol fashioned pragmatism vs. idealism at work. Thanks for the info. Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end. |

More like:
Apache: "We can't read the spec." Microsoft: "We choose to ignore the spec." Mozilla: "We work around the spec." WebKit: "We don't like the spec." |
