Details from AppleInsider
Apple Computer on Wednesday is expected to unveil a major overhaul to its iPod product offerings, according to a multitude of reports. Following requests that dealers return their remaining stock of iPod photo players, sources say Apple will discontinue its 40GB iPod and iPod photo models, replacing them with a 30GB iPod photo for $349 and a 60GB iPod photo for $449. The iPod maker will reportedly keep its 20GB monochrome display player at $299 for the foreseeable future, or until supplies are exhausted. Both the new 30GB and 60GB iPod photo models are expected to debut with Bluetooth wireless connectivity, sources added. As previously reported, Apple will also debut 4 new models of its iPod mini player, which will retail for $249 with a 6GB drive and color display. Sources said the company will continue to sell its current 4GB iPods, sans the 'Gold' model, for $199 until supplies run dry. It remains unclear what will become of the Special Edition 20GB U2 iPod, which currently retails for $349 -- the same price point the company will target with its new 30GB iPod photo. Also unconfirmed is whether the new iPod photo players will continue to ship with a carrying case and docking station at their new price points, or if these accessories will now be sold separately. An official announcement is expected at 8:30 am EST on Wednesday morning. _________________________________________________ I dunno...sounds a little convoluted to me. That's an iPod at $99, $149, $199, $249, $299, $349, and $449. Wow - what happened to $100 increments? I think it's weird that the old iPod line-up was 20/40/60 and this is 20/30/60. They're shrinking! Still, nice to see updates to the Minis. But no new colors? |

My friend bought an iPod a week ago. I think he got the 20GB version. Maybe he'll trade it in for a 30GB/color/BT version for $50 more.
The 20GB iPod really isn't much of a deal at all right now. Especially since it doesn't come with the case, remote, etc. Although, again, those might not come with the new iPod photos (I hope they do). |

Here is what I'd like to see in the new revisions:
iPod photo: 60GB iPod Photo ($449) 40gb iPod Photo ($349) A 80GB model later in the year New features: -Win- many camera's memory cards appear as mass storage devices (in Explorer), iPhoto photo should do too-similar to how the iPod shuffle is miunted when used as a flash drive. Sync with other photo organisers (eg. Jasc PSP Photo Album, ACDSee, Microsoft Digital Image Suite's DigitaL Image Suite)-instead of just Adobe products supported. BT support iPod : 20GB and 40GB iPod with color screens SE editions- U2, Michael Jackson, John Mayer (he has appeared at Apple keynotes, perhaps preloded with some of his music). HP:Gwen Safani, Not likely Nickelodeon (not likely at all, but would be cool), My SE edition idea would be a Invader ZIM iPod Nickelodeon SE-I haven't seen any type of MP3 layer with one of there brands (eg. there are cd players) 20GB, in green/ silver back (well, there are DVD's, action figures, etc and there is a iPod mini that is green and love the show) Available in the current style, different colors (green, brushed metal look?) iPod Mini 5/6GB current price and color screens iPod shuffle as is Last edited by InvaderZim : 2005-02-23 at 02:08. |
