..it's porn baby!

Apple is the innovator once again. I mean can you go to the Blackberry, Palm or Google/G1 app stores and download porn?

No...

Porn is a huge industry and Apple will benefit tremendously from this. I predict the next app will be the iVibrate allowing you to set the phone to vibrate, perhaps even remotely for whatever period of time and whatever purposes you desire.

Add a million to the previous sales estimates.. hell make it two!

Ugh...the beginning of the end.

But cue the various "multi-touch" and "pinch/spread" jokes anyway. As well as the onslaught of iCantGetLaid apps sure to come.

I know this will meet with opposition here (but I also don't really give a rip ), but Apple should just steer clear of all this. I wouldn't allow it. Just kinda taints/cheapens the brand.

We can't have $399 Apple netbooks (because that goes against their image/brand, Apple doesn't play in the "bargain basement", etc.), but we can have Japanese schoolgirl T&A and the rest on their iPhones, via some lame-ass app?

Safari's already on the iPhone...folks are free to surf to whatever sites they want (just like on their Macs). But Apple doesn't need to provide a gateway to this stuff (in the same way they don't have an iJack app as part of iLife '09).

Yeah, yeah...call me a prude, etc. But it goes beyond that, really.

You start letting this crap through, and what's the platform gonna be in another 2-3 years? Wading through shit, that's what.

It's the human body pscates, get over it. Just as long Apple doesn't allow full on porn apps( hardcore stuff), then they'll be fine. I see no problem with having nude model pics in an app because boobs is a perfectly normal part of the human body.

And... it's gone.

I really couldn't care less when people are surfing in their iphone, but an app just for this gives off some bad media attention. IMO.

Exactly. That was my only point (I'm not "offended" on a "ooh, they're naked!" level at all). It's just a stupid, lame and needless app. And Apple doesn't need the grief and shady PR that goes with it. Use Safari and surf to whatever pics you desire, and save them to your photos. Instant porn, of your own creation/organization.

Why spend $2 on something you've got no control over? Find your own and make your own "thrill folder", if that's how you roll.

That app was a "solution" in search of a problem, so it's lame on that count as well.

It appears Apple came to their senses about it.

Nope sorry. Dev is stating that they requested it be halted because their servers couldn't keep up and they need to upgrade.

I have zero problem with this app - hell, I have zero problem with tentacle hentai futanari porn apps, *now that parental controls are in place*. Anyone wants to 'not see them', they can turn on their own controls, or those on their kids' phones, etc.

What, you didn't know it *had* those controls, and little Johnny saw a titty and is now scarred for life? *Don't buy your kid a technology *YOU* don't understand you dipshit.*

Parental responsibility FTW.

Self-policing FTW.

Giving everyone the tools to do the above very easily and make the decision themselves? Flawless victory.

Me, I don't care to go grabbing these apps, but hell, if you don't want to slog through them, just turn on Restrictions on your phone and in iTunes, and block them. Done. End of story. No issue.

A likely story.

And if that's truly the case, that's just sad.

And no, not from any prude/finger-wagging standpoint whatsoever. Just the fact that people are stupid (and desperate? Lazy? Clueless?) enough to pay $2 for an "app" that does something they could do in minutes, for free (and with a very targeted collection, done for your exact tastes), via Safari and Google.

Again, it's just pointless. And the vibe it puts out probably isn't worth it.

Yeah, a "parental controls" test case, I guess...

Besides, this app probably has all the clichéd, over-processed Hawaiian Tropic/Maxim/sorority types, anyway. Not sexy, and boring. And not even worthy of a "semi"...

As for the other stuff, I've always been big on parental supervision and personal responsibility/control, so yeah. No argument there.

It just lames the whole thing up, IMO.

iTit apps.

Yay. That's what we can do with all this amazing tech and resources?

Don't be so offended, after all were it not for the Porn industry much of what the web has to offer wouldn't exist.

Porn Online chat/rooms = IM
Porn Online Video = YouTube
Porn Online shopping transactions credit and one-click = Amazon
Porn Online personal verification = Well still Porn

We owe the worlds oldest industry a great debt and what better way than to have iPhone apps.

Sadly, this is already causing the NeoPuritans to get their knickers in a bunch. Read this piece of crap at CNN: http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06...rn-for-iphone/

NOWHERE does it mention the Parental Controls. Now read the spew in the comments. Unbefuckinglievable.

Well, one point...I don't think you necessarily have to be a knotted-knicker NeoPuritan to get a little sick and tired of the over-sexualization of everything these days. When your typical yogurt commercial on TV makes you wanna go rub one out, then something's just really wrong and going too far.

As one of the CNN readers said, "can we not have even one communication outlet that isn't saturated in sex?".

Apparently, no.

It just becomes overwhelming, and just turns into a big "nothing" blur after a while. All the mystery and spice is removed, and, now, every commercial, web banner, billboard, radio spot, magazine ad, website, spam, pop song, TV show, newscast, blog, etc. is just "all sex and nakedness, all the time...Paris Hilton is screwing Jon & Kate...the governor is S. Carolina is nailing half of Argentina...give him a reality show! The Pussycat Dolls are all sucking on Bret Michael's wang, live on VH!...Donald Trump is dating some reality whore, and the Sun Maid Raisins chick!"

Enough already...

We'll killing sex, and we don't even know it.

And it's not being done by the favorite, expected targets (the "moralistic Midwest Bible bangers and Southern Pentecostal screamers and yellers"), but, instead, by the very people and industries who can't seem to give the topic a rest every once in a while.

I don't need to think about "getting off" during a Wheat Chex commercial, guys. I really don't.

So ease up, and pull back the reins a bit on the "sex sells" thing. Because it also "overwhelms" and "wears out its welcome" after a few hundred times a day. To the point that it's just not special, or no big deal. Or it's so oversaturated into our heads, we don't even give it the attention and interest it so richly deserves.

And so, now, it's made it's way to the iPhone. In the lamest, most unnecessary and imagination-free way possible.

What a waste of engineering and tech.

The latest:

Apple will not distribute "porn" and other inappropriate content.

From the story:

Quote:
After the news broke that the first iPhone application with nudity was released, the app was quickly removed from the App Store. Despite the developer initially claiming that it was removed voluntarily to relieve server load, it seems that Apple may have had an active role in its removal.

"A likely story" was my immediate (snarky) response yesterday to the bullcrap floated about "server loads" and so forth. There simply can't be that many sad, horned-up individuals looking to needlessly spend $2 on such a lame app. Certainly not enough to "crash the servers". I refused to believe that.

From Apple:

Quote:
Apple will not distribute applications that contain inappropriate content, such as pornography. The developer of this application added inappropriate content directly from their server after the application had been approved and distributed, and after the developer had subsequently been asked to remove some offensive content. This was a direct violation of the terms of the iPhone Developer Program. The application is no longer available on the App Store.
Told ya.

Sounds like this developer engaged in a bit of bait-n-switch tomfoolery, so that makes them an extra level or two of idiot, and even more deserving of the can job. Did they submit the app with puppy and butterfly pics, received approval and swapped it all out with the T&A? Shady and low-rent behavior and tactics, at best. They purposely set out to deceive or get around Apple's approval process. And it bit them.

So we can argue about all this until the cows come home (and I'm sure some of us will ), but it's Apple's deal and they get to decide what's what.

I see nothing wrong or bad about this.

Might not always be this way, of course. But, as it stands, that seems to be where Apple is coming down on it all. Suck it up (no pun)...

Still isn't a thing keeping you from building your own little collection (of whatever you're into, and as mild and wild as you prefer) and syncing it to your iPhone. Apple simply isn't going to provide access to a lame app that does it, that's all. Big deal.

I think Apple is sorta looking for sites like Giz, Engadget and others to help police the App store. I wonder how much longer this app would of been available had it not been for the reports.

Well wtf are the reviewers doing then?
They test apps in the first 24 hours of them being submitted and then apparently do nothing for a week to 10 days.. Surely they notice what's actually in the apps when they run them..

It is possible the developer hide the true nature of the app, linking it to different photos, then changing the links upon release?

That's what I was wondering (and what that MacRumors article kinda points to). A little behind-the-scenes flim-flam taking place, once the app was approved with a particular set of images?

"Okay, we made it. Now let's take out these artsy bra and underwear shots and link to the nekkid, spread-eagle stuff! They'll never know..."

Right. Apparently the app the developers created pulls images from their servers and not locally from a library installed with the app. When the app was approved the images were shall we say "PG-13". when it went live the images were "R" I still don't consider those images Porn, but that kind of rope-a-dope would be hard to catch with 50,000+ apps.

Jobs said when he unveiled the App Store that Apple wouldn't distribute porn apps through the store. It has nothing to do with prudishness - it's just part of projecting a professional image. BlackBerry, et al. wouldn't want porn in their "App World" either.

I don't think it's "wrong" either, Kick. But parental controls or not, it's not good publicity for Apple, and it doesn't reflect well on the iPhone as a tool for business. Nobody wants to wade through dozens of porn apps to find an app they want.

Plus, purchasing a porn app? As Paul pointed out, couldn't you just get the same photos (probably the exact same photos - at $2/pop, I doubt the developers funded their own shoot...) for free anyways? Even if you didn't want to have to download naughty JPEGs over EDGE or GPRS you could just sync them from iPhoto on your computer and then you'd always have them in your, uh, pants.

It's not even an "app," really. It's just some developer looking to make a quick buck and earn some notoriety by gaming the system, that's all.

What's really sad is that the legions of mouthbreathers who ranted about this will now be certain that their voices made a difference, and they won't shut the hell up and go away.

Um...hello, oh, this thing is on?

Lalalala... *whistle*

Nevermind.

I'm just saying that if someone wanted to, in theory, put together 14 photos of a particularly hot black-haired actress in various states of vixenhood and, theoretically, sync said collection to their iPhone, then it's really not tough. Or so I've heard. I read it somewhere. In church or something. Hypodermically speaking and so forth. I don't even own an iPhone. They're gross.

TBH I wouldn't put porn on my phone simply because you never know if you'll have to let anybody else use it. I needed to make a call on my coworker's G1 once...slid up the screen and there, wallpapered on the home screen...it kind of squicked me out. I mean, seriously? Do you seriously need to see that every time you use your phone? I'm no prude but please, have some self-control.

In your web bookmarks or buried in the media player is one thing but on the home screen? It's just tasteless.

Having a porn app wouldn't be quite so obvious but anyone who used your phone would still see your "LuvlyPr0nzXXX" app, subtly depicted with an icon of cleavage. Then, I can promise you, using someone else's phone (already sort of gross) will reach whole new levels of awkward.

What will always be the core issue is that the iPhone has apps that already get the same kind content, namely Safari and YouTube. Granted one could argue that the apps sole purpose is not the delivery of explicit content, but it can be had.

Content is content wether it is on your computer or your iPhone, but as long as Apple has the power to reject apps this will remain an issue.

Yeeeeeeah, a coworker wanted to see my iPhone after I got it. He brought up Safari, and started typing a URL... which auto-completed to my History of URLs from my Mac, which I didn't realize it would do.

*cough* It was a moment of... awkward. *sigh*

I streamlined my syncing after that.
