Brad,
Does the vBulletin allow inline display of YouTube vids or is this a security risk... or a display problem? It would be keen.

I believe he has previously answered he didn't want this for quality reasons. There is no security risk, though, as the content plays locally.

It does. I already asked for it and got shot down, saying it is a "Memory hog."

I think this sums up Brad's feelings.

I really don't have experience of it being annoying on other forums. They don't have autoplay, so you have to click on the vid for it to play. Although they do start downloading as soon as you open the page....

That's not the issue. They load Flash, which increases memory use and – worse – likelihood of your browser crashing any second now.

I'd rather just have links to the YouTube video than put them inline in posts.

I'd just rather keep the forums clean and without the videos.

Not just a memory hog - more importantly a *CPU* hog.

I have to admit, those Macbook fans starting with every whiff of a flash vid could get annoying.

It would be neat if YouTube provided a "lite" option that simply pulled in the posterframe of the video and a link to said video..... seems a simple add-on for them to provide for messageboards.

Funny this thread should pop up. I'm trying to get this [flash] going on my forum for my family. Since it is a very small user base it'll be fine there for what we are using it for.

When I enter the address in the flash tags it creates the frame for me and adds the space in the post (because I designate [flash=320,280] for it but the vid never shows. The address for the .swf file is good and I can navigate directly to it in the browser. When I look at the frame info in Adblock it shows the correct address for the file also. What is missing? Am I doing something wrong?

On a side note, I'm in support of Brad and not allowing flash code in the posts for this place. It's too clean to mess that up.

Oh yeah, no Flash in the forum.... me third! or fourth or whatever. I wasn't thinking about that when I posted the question.
