So it's after midnight on the east coast so I'd like to wish all my fellow Americans a happy Independence Day! (Everybody else just gets a normal day in July, but I hope it's happy for y'all too. ) It's hard to believe that America now has as many years under its belt as the original iMac had megahertz. Two and a third centuries, wow! In civilization years, we're almost a toddler

So, like, do something American, like play baseball or invade a country or something. But most importantly, be careful with the fireworks! Every year some dummies hurt themselves with fireworks and that makes me a sad panda. So remember, safety first!

Happy 4th, everyone.

It's a quarter to 2 in the afternoon over here in Japan, and I'm getting ready to head over to the base to see what they've got going on there for the evening. I'm pretty sure they've got fireworks scheduled sometime after sunset, and maybe a picnic or something to go with them. Interestingly, the weather seems to be letting up for the day, with the rain and thunderstorms slated to resume tomorrow. Here's hoping, anyway.

Thank you and you too! I live in Northeast (CT) and am at my summer condo in RI. We have had such horrible weather this past spring and early summer (unless you are a plant!)

It has been raining almost every day--I feel like I still live in London (or maybe Seattle/Portland.) But today is a beautiful sunny and mid 70's day on the Narragansett Sound and I am out to play golf.

Everyone enjoy the day and remember, regardless if you are left or right wing or a middle-the-roader, what a great great country we live in, even with all its faults.

As Winston Churchill once said:

Capitalism is surely the worst economic system, except for all the others that have been tried.

We should be all glad to live in a great country.

Now that I got a job, I can buy more Apple products!

Woohoo, the celebration on base was awesome! Everything from food, drinks, and football (American-style), to an air-powered mortar launcher firing T-shirts into a crowd, and a drunk Marine carrying a life-sized cardboard cutout of Paris Hilton on stage while his buddies danced to country music. (Yes, you did read that right.)

The city of Yokosuka put on the fireworks display, and they did a heck of a job. Pics to follow, once I parse through them all (I shot about 7.3GB of photos today, so it's gonna take a while.)

Have a fun and safe 4th everyone. If you bump into any soldiers, sailors or airmen today, be sure to thank them for their part in keeping us an independent nation.

Yah we got rain coming here too though not as heavy as what's expected down your way. For 3 days straight this week we had threatening skies (almost all day) but it never rained. Was really odd. At first I thought you were in Illinois (UofI maybe) when I saw "Urbana" and "Springfield". There's also big showers headed that way over here. Then I saw Dayton and figured it out. The funny thing is your Urbana and Springfield are oriented on the map in almost the same was as they are in Illinois; just south instead of southwest.

Happy 4th, everyone.

Down here in S. FL, we've had a perfectly sunny day with low humidity, after many weeks of "hot & humid with afternoon t-storms" weather 80% of the time.

Wait just a damn minute...it's July 4th, on a Saturday, and no Radiators reference?! Screw you, you're not even trying. In fact, I'm not entirely convinced this is really FFL. Quit hacking people's accounts!

But seriously, happy Fourth (to those who celebrate). Happy Saturday (and we're sorry) for those who don't.

Careful with those fireworks, boys and girls.

In case anyone thought I was joking about the guy with the Paris Hilton cutout. Funny as hell.

More shots from the base celebration in this here Flickr set.

I drove to Atlanta for the weekend and took my first iPhone 3GS video of the fireworks at Centennial Olympic Park. Not bad for a cell phone.
