After getting my new PB; first Mac, in August, the ability to talk to my computer was one of the many things I was wanting to use after switching from Windows.

I remembered it again today and want to use it a little more, whats bettter than talking to your PB? A few things though;

-When I have a keyword for it to listen to, if I Show all Windows, or Hide all, it will go to where it thinks it keeps hearing something with the two arrows pointing at each other. And sometimes, like now, it will just disappear. Also, after a restart or login it will seem to do the arrow thing and I'll have to go to Prefs and turn it off than on. When I have it always listening, sometimes it thinks my typing is a word. :/ Also, is there a way to make it a universal hot key? not to talk, but to 'open' the Speakable Items?-

All that ^ bugs me. Is there a way around?

EDIT: It does the arrow thing when not needing keyword too.

It should be noted now that the speech recognition engine has, as far as I can tell, stagnated and not seen a significant update (outside of porting to Mac OS X) in about seven or eight years. I recall reading that Apple lost its speech developers years ago around the time of the NeXT transition. So, I wouldn't hedge any bets on any related complaints being resolved. Unless you need it, it's really nothing more than a bad gimmic today.

Using the "always listening" option is a terrible choice, IMO.

You could drop the folder on the Dock for immediate access from any app.

Oh.

Good idea with the Dock 'link'. Folder? Does Speech not have an 'app'?

Yeah, mine is kinda wonky too. Every 10 minutes or so, it quits on me.
