Nope. Whole house doesn't have Internet. Working to figure out why and fix it if I can.

Yep, it was Verizon. Right after I posted from my iPhone (once I remembered to turn off WiFi on it ) I was able to get online. I did nothing...

So Lenny never went down however it seems the MC.net is down with the major outage Amazon is facing. I have disabled the verification on our server for now. You all should be able to play again.

Something seriously weird is happening on the server. Random chunks of land have popped up everywhere and intersected structures.
I'd advise everyone to halt building until we can figure out what happened. [edit]: I looks like the mayhem is happening around recent builds. The Museum and Planetarium area is a mess, and Brad's new Mario island is completely gone. There's probably more, but I'm not sure who's been building where recently. If it helps to diagnose, I lost my inventory twice today out of the blue (no biggie since it was mostly stone), but it was certainly odd. So it goes. Last edited by 709 : 2012-07-01 at 10:01. |

Server went read-only.
Not look good for the home team. SSD seems to not be mounting now. |

And we are back live! From the dead even.
While we were down I went ahead and reenabled checking with MC.net. |

Hooray! Thanks T.
You think the authentication thing was part of the wonkiness? I mean, is it safe to build? |

Nah, it didn't have anything to do with it. The issue was server OS level not MC server level. Totally safe to build again.

i dunno if it is safe to build. Cactaur told me a little secret via a little chunk error the other day...

Not safe.
I just got booted and when I logged back in I had the same inventory that I had last night (which happened to me twice earlier and was a prelude to the server going tits up). So, I'd hold off on doing anything until we can figure out what's up. So it goes. |

I'm throwing a few software updates at the server now. Watching things as they go wonky too.

Yeah, there's something still wonky at the OS level:
Code:
[bsmith@Lenny current]$ touch ./world/session.lock
touch: cannot touch `./world/session.lock': Read-only file system edit: You beat me to it. I'll move the world to the regular HDD FS for now… |

Okay, one more update: we're updating a bunch of OS packages while we're in here, taking from CentOS 5.6 to 5.8. I've also moved the regular world back to the HDD since the SSD seems flaky.
It'll be a few more minutes before all the updates are done and we restart the machine, but then we should be able to restart the game... Aaaaaand we're back.
Restart took longer than expected because it hung while trying to talk to the kaput SSD. The game now fully resides on the regular HDD. I'll leave it to turtle to decide what to do about the SSD. As you know the server is up right now however the SSD is currently physically installed but back into read-only. This means I'm going to have to pull it, meaning turn off the server and then do a cold boot. I will wait until there is no one in the game and plan to post the note here.
I'm going to pull the SSD and place in a different known good HDD and test the controller. I'll also then bench the SSD and see that it is faulty. Then I will be getting an RMA on it for sure. Java hung again. I killed it and then the server loaded normally. I was able to login and play a little too.

Sorry about that Grey. I booted you that time. It wasn't supposed to happen but it restarted the MC server.
Brad: backup scripts aren't working but I'm taking at look at them. Path is not right based on the errors. Likely an easy fix for you though. Edit: fixed script. Commented change in the script. Server coming down right now for hardware maintenance. No one is on so it shouldn't impact anyone.
Edit: server is back up but I have more to do later. I'll keep you posted but it likely won't be tonight.
