From the 1st generation to my video ipod I absolutely hate the interface. I have little to no control over it and actually literally laugh out loudd in frustration while trying to select from lists only to have the selection change as I try to press the evil center button. A side clicker would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooo nice.

please...?

What? Why would the selection change when you press a button? The selection only changes when you circle around the center.

If you want a "side clicker" why don't you buy a different MP3 player? Why do you keep buying iPods if you hate the interface so much?

Strangely, I love the interface for the exact control it gives me. I have a 2G, 3G and a Nano.

You simply have to lift your thumb briefly when clicking the "evil" center button. If you slide the thumb towards the center, you'll probably move the selection.

I used to have a Sony MD player, which had one of those clickwheels, and it sucked. Selecting letters when entering song titles took bloody ages. The iPod wheel is much, much better. Okay, it's not perfect, and I also sometimes have to go back because I slipped on the wheel while clicking. But other than that, it's really pretty good.

EDIT: If they really extend the screen so there's no more room for a clickwheel, they will have to come up with something new anyway. A "virtual clickwheel" makes no sense at all, because a) you smear finger grease all over your display, and b) doing the "slide and click" is much less obvious, and there is no tactile feedback for it.

I feel like half of this ridicule is just to settle personal conflicts, and it really isn't justifiable. Since when do flame wars make you cool?

I think the interface is pretty good - side clicking would slow things way down, having to move your fingers around.

There are no conflicts.

The UI of the iPod is great! CyberGourmet has other thoughts about that... that's absolutely fine ofcourse. But his problems with the iPod has nothing to do with Speculation or Rumors...

(Sometimes I wonder if any sense of humor is allowed?)
