Just throwing this out there but my schools book store dropped the price on their ibooks (blowout in their words) and did a similar thing with the 15" powerbook before Jobs announced the Macbook Pro. So when does everyone think we can expect to see a new ibook?

My school (Kansas State) recently got rid of all their 15" PowerBooks, selling them for $1100 regardless what BTO options they had. My friend got a PowerBook G4 with 1Gig of Ram for eleven hundred dollars.
Education stores seem to indicate the future! |

I'm loving the red, underlined "iSight" on that mockup....
Oh, and you need to fix that image so it doesn't break the frame before an Admin bitch-slaps you.... |

Why the hell do people insist on Apple making their new computers CHEAPER... keep dreaming people. They will stay at the same price point or will be even more money. WAKE UP!

Why do you think a computer with the same specs as a $799 Mac mini would be unreasonable to price at $999?
Sometimes companies don't have to make 100000% profit from their products! Apple is no exception, and I think that students won't want to pay much more than 1K for a laptop. |

I just saying that if Apple wants to appeal to students they will have to make an affordable laptop.
$2000 isn't affordable to most students. Maybe Apple should just be a high-end company that only focuses on really high-end machines. Edit: Thanks FFL |

I'm pretty sure I won't be able to resist getting a macbook. Assuming it's 13.3" widescreen and light, I'm sure the specs will completely cream my current powerbook and the price will likely be reasonable.
the only problem is... what do I do with my 15.2" aluminum g4 powerbook? |

That's nothing like saying there is no screen and it doesn't start. It has issues, yes, but they are not serious ones and they do not seriously effect the functionality of the computer. Even though the power cable can be spotty, it still works 90% of the time. Even though the audio in can be spotty it still works 90% of the time. Even though a couple keys are sorta broken, I have still been able to type this message with no hangups or delays.
The computer still works great, it's just very well weathered. |

Yeah, I agree that $799 Apple notebook would be quite a stretch.

If they keep the same sizes as the iBook, it will probably have the exact same price points. Just like the iMac. I for one prefer a small laptop for portability, and hope they keep a 12 incher.

I can't wait to see what this laptop looks like (both physically and specs-wise), and thankfully, I don't think its arrival is too far off.

Here's my idea of what the top of the line MacBook might look like:
http://forums.applenova.com/showpost...&postcount=728 Possible specs: 13.3-inch TFT display with [dunno] resolution 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo with 2MB shared L2 Cache 667MHz frontside bus 512MB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM 80GB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive Slot-load SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW) ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with 64MB GDDR3 memory [Note: could have integrated graphics, could have a choice, maybe Nvidia.] There would be a Core Solo option and there could also be a 12.1" widescreen Core Solo model with integrated graphics. Perfect for education. |

I think what you are saying is the macbook is basically a continuation of the MacBook Pro line. Well, as tesco has its value range in garish white and red, to get people to spend more so they aint seen with it, I think apple try and get people to spend a little more money to get a much nice macbook pro, if you see what I mean.
I mean, you might as well give them silver cases and call them MacBook Pro's if you want to sell more of them. |

No, but I think at least keep a good spec distance between the two, instead of merging them. For example, no isight and no good graphics, and maybe no Bluetooth. as standard/
