One would assume that this might fix something along those lines:

Quote:
Installer

CVE-ID: CVE-2006-4404

Available for: Mac OS X v10.3.9, Mac OS X Server v10.3.9, Mac OS X v10.4.8, Mac OS X Server v10.4.8

Impact: When installing software as an Admin user, system privileges may be used without explicit authorization

Description: Admin users are normally required to authenticate before executing commands with system privileges. However, the Installer allows system privileges to be used by Admin users when installing certain packages without requiring authentication. This update addresses the issue by requiring authentication before installing software with system privileges.

Does anyone know where is that downloaded update patch located? Is it downloaded to a temp folder, then deleted upon restart?

If so, where is the temp folder loacated?

Update installed. Didn't take as long to restart as updates usually take.

Partial Assplosion!

Not really. I did get the "folder with question mark" for a moment, then it booted, albeit slowly.

I tried to update last night, but the update progress bar stalled at 25% (or so) and I got a message that said my internet connection was down. Strange that, becuase my internet connection was fine at the time.

This happened twice, and I bailed on the project. I'll try again at the weekend.

Is there a standalone download for this? Maybe that would work.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the update worked this time around (with the usual heart-wrenching lags).

Mine went into the MB smoothly this time. I'm very grateful for that since last time I have to Archive and Install!

Edit: Thought I would add that my G4 Mini had no issues with the update at all.

No problems with the update on my Rev A iMac G5 or my Rev A MacBook.

The Intel update (like every Intel update I can remember) was >2x the size of the PPC update.

A bit longer than usual restart time, but running smoothly otherwise. The long startup time could have also been due to the fact that it was the first time my computer had been restarted in some 55 days.

I always experience a slower startup after applying an update. Not sure if this has to do with prebinding or reindexing or flushing the disk cache due to new OS components or what. I do accept the first reboot after an update will be slower than normal. This has happened to me for every OS X update.
