Silly question: Does this work in the Amazon MP3 store? If so, you'll be getting the occasional ha' penny from me that way.

Yes, it works with the MP3 store, and no, I have no idea what any person is buying, just the items that have been purchased. If you don't tell me *what* you bought, I have no idea.

It works for AmP3, and Kindle hardware purchases (a full 10%!) and content subscriptions, but not Kindle ebook purchases (they're losing money on those as it is). I don't remember if it works for Amazon Video on Demand, and I don't think they've said whether it works for Amazon Game Downloads or not. I don't think they've said whether it works for Amazon Shorts or not, either, but those are only $0.49 a piece, so I don't think we're missing out on much.

Anything glossy, or not-real-leather, or any special gels, or....yeah, anything along that line. I'm buying those for murbot. Just so there's no confusion.

Yeah, the 2 HD's did come through. I think we're almost ready to hit the cost of the year's hosting, we certainly will by Nov.

If AN'ers do some Christmas shopping via Amazon we might even be able to get someone in to clean up all those stains Murbot left in the executive wash room.

How about adding the link to the "Donate" page and the CafePress (Store) page? Some might not ever find the link in this thread if they don't try to read it.

Is the link posted anywhere else in the forum?

I pre-ordered COD4:MW2 so that'll be coming your way in Nov. I may have also ordered Fallout 3 for my hackintosh, though if my wife asks, I got the game from teh intarwebs and didn't have to pay for it.

We really should make sure we get the links up and running prior to the holiday shopping season. Last year, I think I bought nearly all of my gifts from amazon. And I'm sure others are the same.

This and other things (such as the vB mod torifile keeps mentioning) are on my to-do list.

It's no big. It's just that, technically, we're required to display the affiliate logo or the phrase "In association with Amazon" somewhere on the site. So, in the interim, here it is:

In association with Amazon

We're in association with Amazon, guys. Amazon. Many of you may have already heard of them. They are a popular web site on the Internet where users can place orders for goods and have them delivered by mail. It's important to remember that we are in association with Amazon. We are absolutely not in association with Buy.com, the fuckers.

I have heard of it, but I'm not a big reader, so I'm not interested. And, even if I was, who's going to buy books on the Internet anyway? They're too heavy. Think of the shipping costs! Madness.

Automatic parsing of Amazon URLs and appending of our referrer ID in forum posts should now be working...

Looks like it's there when I hover over it:

If you copy the URL that's generated in your post, you'll see it there. Note that when you click it, it redirects you like what happens when you click alcimedes' original link.

Oh OK. I could see enough of the URL to know that it wasn't exactly the same as I had entered it but Chrome only shows a little tiny bit of each URL before they truncate it and I didn't see our affiliate ID in
there.

I just bought a monitor for my hackintosh. A cool $12 off my $300 purchase. And it was cheaper than newegg. And I get it faster than I would through newegg. Wins all around.

I don't get why everyone always assumes that NewEgg is the cheapest. They are sometimes but Amazon has really good prices too.

It's like Walmart. They're making a killing because they've convinced everyone that they don't need to bother comparison shopping any more, that Walmart is always the cheapest. But if you pay attention to sales and circulars you can get nicer stuff at Target for the same price. You just have to be a savvy shopper.

Sometimes Amazon will beat NewEgg's price, and then they'll be a rebate on top of their lower price. Win!

Hey, I recently bought two of the new remastered Beatles CDs from Amazon (and they've shipped).

I didn't initially click the affiliate link before I put the CDs in my cart. Realizing my mistake, I removed them and then went and clicked the affiliate link and then re-added them and then placed the order. Actually, I'm leaving out some extra weirdness that I did because I was really messing around on the Amazon site before I carted and ordered.

Long story short, I'm wondering if I did it right. Can I get a confirmation that the two Beatles CDs contributed to the AN bottom line?

Ugh.

I died a little when you compared Walmart and Newegg together

Newegg isn't always the cheapest but they are the easiest to deal with BY FAR (or at least in my opinion) and so I will pay anywhere from 1 - 30 dollars more to shop at the egg.

I'm always telling people this. This is exactly how Wal-Mart got so huge. Sam Walton was a master salesman.

One trick is this: up-sell to higher margin items in a category. Start by charging the lowest price on the very low-end item in a category. This cheapest item may be exclusively manufactured just for Wal-Mart, so competitors might not even get a chance to sell this super-low-end item at any price. Then charge higher than the competition prices on the "better than low-end" items. Use the price on the low-end item to make customers believe that the higher prices on the higher-end item are still a good deal.

For example, take microwave ovens. They will display their cheapest microwave oven with an amazing price. It'll have the little happy face price sign, "Always Low Prices. Always." This low-end microwave will be just OK, but not feature-complete (this item's purpose is to up-sell to the microwave sitting next to it). Right next to that microwave is the "next better microwave" (the one you will buy) with maybe a larger capacity or more buttons, whatever. Also with a happy face price sign. This second microwave will cost you more than the exact same microwave at another store. Psychologically, it's very difficult not to believe that that second microwave is just as good a deal as the first, price/feature-wise. They present them as a set of specially-priced items, even though only one of them actually competes with competitors' prices (that's if the competitor could even get that really low-end item to sell).

Ugh.

Nothing showed up yet, although some times it takes a day or two. Just the Beatles Rock Band game.

Does anyone know when this happens? Does it happen when you put the item in your shopping cart, or when you check out? I have to buy some books soon, so I want to do it properly. There's like almost $2 CAD in it for you.

We just broke the $150 mark, which covers AN's hosting for a year. It should also cover the Vb license as well by Christmas.
