Drew, my man, you absolutely rock.
That's hilarious, on so many, many levels. I totally regret not driving down yesterday. |

Oh you should come down tonight then. We're entering the big costume contest. This is real-life research for a revamp to a screenplay I had people looking at a couple years ago. The lines were really long for tickets yesterday, we passed the line on our way around the building and it went on and on and on and everybody wanted us to stop so they could take our pictures.

That was awesome. People standing around all serious about the parade and then you guys come up and everyone starts laughing. You're a geek celebrity. |

It's the Boxtroopers!
You guys had the walk/posing down. That's really cool because out of that entire parade, you were the only ones who truly stood out. Like I said the other day: you see one meticulously detailed Stormtrooper or Boba Fett costume, you've pretty much seen them all. But it ain't everyday you see troopers from the storied Cardboard Squadron (they were assigned to the copy room on the Death Star, according to the research I've done, and whose pivotal scenes were wound up being edited out of the original '77 release). |

Excellent, guys, I can't wait to hear stories from my myriad geek friends who went, about seeing 'these crazy cardboard trooper guys'. |

That is too good. I'm a little surprised at how many 'real' troopers there were. That's nutty.

...and thus a nice segue to this sketch from Robot Chicken. I'm sure Seth Green was fully aware of Mr. Izzard's routine when he wrote this. I wonder how one would bring this to DragonCon? Or Eddie Izzard?

The CNN news site has a DragonCon video clip.
Doesn't show you guys, though. Look for the video camera in the list of news stories on the right-hand side. http://edition.cnn.com/ |

I think that there's some video at this link:
Code:
javascript:playVideo('943437',%20'Dragoncon',%20'v',%20'News',%20'132067',%20'Homepage',%20'',%20''); But it doesn't like being played on a Mac. Anybody able to get it open and save it in something that I can view?? Here's the original URL:http://www.cbs46.com/Global/category...&nav=menu140_7 |

Well I did some sleuthing of the javascript that drives the videoplayer and have seen the clip with us in it!! If you open up Windows Media Player 9 (on a Mac) and open the following URL you can see the clip.
Code:
http://ww2.7online.com/global/video/WorldNowASX.asp?playerType=native&ClipID1=943437&h1=Dragoncon&vt1=v&at1=Video Player&d1=132067&LaunchPageAdTag= It runs really ragged but it works. I don't know how to grab the file since it's streaming |

I have a copy of the video now but it took some doing!*
It was a lot of fun and by the end we all got very into it, which threatened to go against my original idea of thrown-together costumes. But we managed to rattle our way through a very busy weekend, and hopefully into DragonCon legend. *I spent the first part of the day digging into the javascript to ferret out the MMS stream, which connected to a low-res version of the video. I then used VLC to try to open that stream with thoughts of downloading it, to no avail. HOWEVER, its messages window helped me to figure out the Akamai stream, which alternated between higher and lower quality. I gave up trying to download/convert and went and got a trial copy of Snapz Pro X (isn't that one of Moki's products?). After three attempts to load a good, non-hesitant playthrough of the video I succeeded in recording it. |

Looking through the album above, I'm struck at how the Jedi Council seems to have gained a bit of weight (in the years leading up to the Clone Wars, were they intervening in the Burger Wars and got a bit too close to their work?).
I'm no ultra-toned Adonis my damn self, but still... |

Cool! Someone came as a Lucas.
There was also an older guy, doing a very good Obi-Wan (the Alec Guinness model, not Ewan). It's rare you see older folks in this type of setting, so it was cool. Had the white hair, beard, great costume, etc. |

What I really want to know is...
How many Macintosh boxes were sacrificed for the costumes? I can only make out an HP box on someone's leg. |
