o2 and CPW are now going to sell the 8GB iPhone from tomorrow. Sounds like a good reduction to me, especially now the tariff is almost acceptable!

I'm going to hold out for the 3G I think.

I have a question - I bought my iPhone back last November and as UK owners know, O2 has an 18 month contract.

Say the 3G iPhone comes out this summer - if I pay the price for it can by SIM card and whatnot be activated on that (and by doing so my contract extended another 18months)?

Or do I have to wait until my 18month contract is over before changing phones?

And yeah, the £100 price drop is pretty damn sweet.

T Mobile dropped the price in Germany to 99 Euros.
Pity O2 couldn't have done that too.

Assuming they follow the same pattern as with the original iPhone launch then you should be able to just pick one up even if you are mid-contract. You just have the 18 months reset to the day you buy the new iPhone. I was mid contract with O2 when it was originally released and it didn't cost me anything to start the new 18 month term.

As for IF it's going to be released, it doesn't take a genius to work out that:

A) The offer ends June 1st.
B) June see's iPhone SDK released, plus 2.0 software.
C) WWDC is only 1 week later, and that means it's Stevenote Time!!

Personally, if it literally is just 3G added, then I will pass. If it has major new functionality that the 1st gen iPhones don't then things could get a bit tricky... My credit card is already beginning to sweat

I picked one up today.

For all those that were like me, trying like crazy to resist, I have some advice:

DON'T

It's brilliant! I have never smiled so much using a gadget before, and probably looked like a pillock whilst texting on the train earlier. There are just loads of little features that are great. The alarm! It's great! And the wibbly icons. I think if I'm ever in a bad mood just looking at that for a few seconds will have me laughing again.

Ok my advice may not be the best considering there will be a new one fairly soon, but my logic was that I'm not going to spend £250+ on a phone, so even when the new one does come out I won't be getting it.

Coolest. Phone. Ever.
