Now, I'm as guilty as the next guy for taking the handouts, but...
I kind of agree with Robo. I don't want there to be a currency, because one of the things I like about Minecraft is that we share stuff, with no quantified method of repayment, just a general feeling of generalised good karma. If we were running a fully public server where anyone and his dog could join, hen it'd be a good idea, but we're not. Which brings me to my second thought: Handouts should be much rarer. Rare materials are rare for a reason. Making a giant pile of clay/gold/lapis just makes a mockery of what little economy the game has. Oh, and: Go Southwest of 0,0 and build a mine. You'll get all the lapis you desire.... |

K's casino has been discussed out in the open in the game. That's no secret. Is that what this is about? Or are you just trying to dissuade resource creation by me and the turtles? If that's it, just say so. I'm not trying to be argumentative here. I just honestly don't get the direction you're steering. The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. I was thinking, and I can always use raw materials directly for the casino. So don't worry about it not functioning if we don't have currency. Of course, that means I have to make it for-profit
As far as currency goes, the reason I thought it would be a cool idea is it would mean that there would be a store to buy rare/unobtainable materials and it would facilitate trade between players. But maybe its just more trouble than its worth. I can see how it could potentially be a lot of hassle for the ops. I envisioned things like a big store ran by Brad where you deposit slimeballs to get materials from dispensers. Again, honor system. Brad would redistribute the slimeballs however he wants to. It means we can all self-serve for nether materials without having a big building full of free stuff in the middle of Bridgeport. I also envisioned everyone having small shops outside their homes so we can put materials up for sale and other players would have access to them (example: I have tons of lapis which robo could have "bought" from me) even when you're not online. And I get where 709 is coming from. I feel weird asking for materials willy-nilly, unless I've lost something due to server glitching. But I want glowstone/soul sand/netherrack, as well as easier access to red and black dye. Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end. My solid gold mansion, on the other hand? Shit yeah, that's for showing off. I'm guess I'm with Brad in not being exactly sure where everybody is coming from, on this. People seem to be arguing for and against different things. If I'm way off base, let me know. and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong |

A) A way to obtain otherwise unobtainable or large quantities of materials (without having to bug you or wait until you're online). B) The introduction of an item that has some specific value (tbd) that could be traded or or given to others. C) (*see above) that could be used as a betting and/or gambling unit. So it goes. |

What everyone is failing to get, is that this whole thing isn't about getting anything scary. It's about trading, betting, buying, and otherwise obtaining shit one would not normally get, and the introduction of an item to do so.
I may have janked the other thread by mentioning my distaste for freebies, but this thread isn't that one, so get over it. So it goes. |

You're disagreeing with something I haven't even't proposed though. So I call it a wash.
Never did I say "nobody should get nothin' unless they pay!" I simply brought up a minimal idea of commerce. No biggie. If it's an idea that doesn't work for everyone then let's not do it. So it goes. |

1) Um, by making it fun? Seriously, trading a stack of (X) for a certain amount of slimeballs is akin to what evil? Do you think you're going to have to dump a bunch of tea in the bay or something? 2) No. I didn't even know about the casino until tonight. I mentioned the idea of a monetary system before, so this is not a new idea. Learning about it earlier brought it back to my mind though. 3) Of course not. You've been more than generous to me and everyone else, and I appreciate it immensely. Sure, I may have an issue with turtle's admin use, but only because it's so blatant and gaudy (though the dispensers are perfect). That's just taste though. 4) Nor am I. I really thought this would be a fun no-brainer. Everything would stay exactly as it is now, except that we could buy stacks of material instead of asking. I don't know. Maybe some of us feel more comfortable paying for items. Nothing against you or anyone handing out goodies - I love getting presents - but I do hate to have to ask for anything. So it goes. |

I think people are aware you don't like asking for things, 709... In fact, there are a variety of different personalities wrt material trading on the server, and over time you get used to dealing with people individually...
What might convince people one way or another is to give an anecdote of the use of the currency in a real game situation (see what i did there)... Don't weep Captain, for all is good in minecraft land.... |
