Hi all, here is my problem.

I have a rev.a 12" PB and every time I have it by itself with nothing plugged in to it and go to pick it up (whether it be off the bed or off a desk) I get the grey-tinted screen saying that I need to hold down the reset button and restart my computer. It doesnt seem to be caused by any particular program as it has happened under many different circumstances and it has happened repeatedly on some occations. I have checked all my software on the computer and everything is fine so the only thing left is a hardware problem.

Has anyone had any experience with this or have any ideas as to solve the problem?

Thanks

Yep.

What ya got, is a loose AirPort Extreme card. When you flex the powerbook slightly by picking it up, the physical connection of the card gets wonky and panics the kernal.

Open the battery compartment, remove the battery, remove and FIRMLY reseat the AirPort Extreme card.

I've gotten some crashes recently (15" PB) but the reason's not the same.

What's the general procedure for locating the reasons for a crash? (I know system logs have to be checked, but that's it.) How do you scan for hardware (mem/HD) faults? Can you easily identify the actual process/program that was guilty of the crash or is it guesswork from the logs, and elimination by running one program at a time for long long periods of time?

Suprisingly, these are not in the Genius Bar sticky FAQ.

You did a great job of describing the problem, which is how I knew exactly what it was. It's the third time I've seen this problem, and it's always been with 12" PBs.
