Soon to be MacBook Pro 15" (or, possibly MacBook, still on the fence) and Mac Pro. |

I use laptops religiously.. So 99% of the time..
However, I have a Dual G5 which I use for *cough* games, but also for large movie projects, and rendering, and programming and so on.. On the programming side I actually use my laptop to work on, but compile, run and serve source from the desktop. I use combinations of Chicken of VNC, as well as a couple of shell programs which allow me to use both mice and keyboards on each machine, so I have a two machine, three screen setup, which is kind of one big computer when at home... One of my developement projects is a windowing system that not only allows me to cut and past pictures and text from machine to machine, but also move windows from one desktop to another a'la multiple moniters, but shared across the network.. Buggy, but loads of fun! Just my PowerBook G4 here too. Unless one includes the occasional (soon to be obsolete) WM-cell phone sync on the PC tower downstairs... PowerBook.

PowerBook G4 90% of the time, and a Dual G5 for more "intensive" render jobs etc.
PowerBook is being replaced in a few months with a MBP because most of my work is done on location or away from my official "home", and the render times are killing my productivity. Ideally I would like to have only one machine (notebook) because the PowerBook is so convenient (even if abit slow compared to the Dual 1.8 G5). jm. |

I have a 12" PB and a beige G3 for OS 9 support. But I use the PB 95% of the time, so I'd say that counts as notebook only.

I only have Powerbooks at home, but I have a G5 Quad at work. The G5 is a dedicated video editing machine, the Powerbook is "my" computer.

99.9999% personal usage on my pbook. the other small percentage is pbook vnc into b&w g4-ified server.. so that counts as notebook only I think (Work is iMac FP g4)

most of my usage is on the G5 as its hard to use a 12" powerbook when you have a 30" ACD sitting right there...... the PB is just for shows and traveling.

Hmm. Only one is a desktop only owner.
Does that mean we're more geeky than everyone else? |

I use my iBook most of the time, but if I want to play games I move over to my Power Mac G4, also when get tired of looking at the small 14" screen, I move to my desktop. My main issue with desktops is noise... the fans are just noisy and not worth listening too if all you are doing is surfing the web. If I'm playing a game, fine, I understand that things get a little toasty in there.

I have both, but my desktop is basically for:
1. Backup (in case the notebook fails) 2. Gaming |

I'm notebook only at home, but have both a desktop and notebook at work (all of them Macs, btw). I never thought I could live with just a notebook, but when I got my PB, I never looked at the PC again.
BTW, being notebook only is not geeky - most geeks I know have desktops, and the normal people tend to be more notebook only. It's lighter, sexier, and more portable, and for most users does everything a desktop does. |

Man, do I have a bunch of computers
Since I got the 17" MBP I have found that I have just about stopped using all the other computers except for the PM G5. I went home last night and looked at all the computers I have running and wondered if I should just get rid of them since the MBP can just about take their place. Now, if only the MBP belonged to me. From work: PM G5 2x2.0 2x250gb with 2 Apple 17" LCD's and 1 19" Dell LCD 17" MacBook Pro 12" 1.33 PB PM Quicksilver 2x1.0Ghz PM 2x500Mhz Gateway 935 1u server 2x1.0Ghz 20" iMac G5 1.8Ghz Home: PM MDD 2x1.0 1x80gb, 2x250gb, 1x320gb sharing 1 Dell 17" LCD and 1 Apple 17" LCD Beige Box AMD 1.7Ghz Ubuntu box - folding and dvd ripping Sun Blade 100 -- ubuntu and Solaris 10 -- it's just a toy Sun Netra X1 -- making this into my file server Cobalt (Sun) Cube 3 -- Just got this one and am learning about it G3 iMac 350Mhz -- daughters computer -- all hail Reader Rabbit Apple II -- currently in storage, but it still runs also have 7 external firewire HD's running Last edited by kretara : 2006-07-20 at 14:27. |

There are a lot of computers in my house, but everyone besides my brother only uses laptops.
I have a G4 powerbook, a Pismo, a cube that my brother is using, a g3/233 desktop that may or may not be working, I need a heat sink to test it, a 7500 upgraded with a G3/350 or something like that. My brother has a Wallstreet, uses my cube, and has an SE/30. My dad has a G4 powerbook and an old powermac. My mom has a G3 iBook. There are also a couple of performas sitting around in our house . |

I'm going to eBay my iMac soon, and I'll use the money to buy a MacBook. I'll be a notebook-only guy.
I don't play many PC games, so I don't need a gaming rig. and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong |
