Hi,
With Microsoft Word 2004, I can't seem to insert a footnote or an endnote. the help system says that I have to go to "Insert" and then click on "Footnote". Unfortuantely, "Footnote" doesn't appear on the Insert menu. I've removed Office and reinstalled it but it still doesn't appear.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

View header and footer would only allow you to make a manual one. It's here on mine:

So you don't see this?

Yes exactly. I don't see the "Footnote" after that line break. It says "Comment", line break and then straight to "Caption". Everything else is the same. How wierd is that? It's very frustrating! I would love to know a solution.

A couple of wild guesses on my part since I don't use this application.

1.) Is there perhaps some checkbox buried deep down in the options that would turn this feature on? You never know the MS...

2.) Is it probable that the view that you are in dictates footnoting ability? For example, normal view does allow footnote additions, whereas, say, Web view does not.

No. I've tried looking for checkboxes and I've tried all the different views available. I wish it were that easy.

Toolbars are customizable. It looks like the "Footnote" command dropped off of yours (weird stuff like that happens with Word sometimes). The good news is that you can add it back in.

Go into "Tools", choose "Customize....", choose the "Commands" tab, click the "Insert" selection from "Categories", find "Footnote...." among the Commands and drag it to the "Insert" menu in your Toolbar.
