It's sometimes difficult to say what IS strange, since to some cultures, something to another culture is not strange can be strange and vice versa.
So what "strange" things have YOU eaten? I have: Snake, Grasshopper, Donkey, Horse, Crocodile, Scorpion, Dog, Frog, Snail, Jellyfish, Sea Cucumber, Ostrich, Cicada Larvae (do NOT try this) And no, they don't taste like chicken. Last edited by stevegong : 2006-04-09 at 02:44. |

I have: crocodile, caterpillars, scorpions, locusts, bumble bee, peacock, jellyfish, snails from huge to tiny, kangaroo, calves brains, ostrich, frogs and zebra, I think. My brother and I basically have a competition.

Once in London I ate a barbecue chicken with mayonnaise sandwich, which actually isn't as bad as it sounds. I've also eaten some (somewhat) weird animal parts, such as chicken gizzard and tripe.

In all seriousness, none of the above, given that I don't eat meat. I won't be happy if anyone admits cat or dog

I've had dog twice actually. Once in a Korean restaurant and once bought from a supermarket in China. Are you not happy because they are cute and a man's best friend? |

Kangaroo steaks can be had in Australia at quite a few local pubs these days - it is not that uncommon anymore. Also, I think emu is also available at some places (although I haven't had it) ... which makes us the only nation* to eat its own coat of arms.

Had kangaroo at this great restaurant on Lygon St in Carlton of Melbourne. BYO which was fantastic as we took wines worthy of the chef.
Can't name the restaurant (too long ago), but it is on the corner, and to get to the toilet you need to walk through the 'kitchen'. Damn I miss Melbourne. |

i ate sparrow on a stick...bones and all...that probably gets the most reactions from people, although it wasn't bad at all. pig brains were much worse. ate a cobra once too...picked him out while he was hissing and his neck was all out and such...

Melbourne - Lygon St, in particular, is great for food. I miss it too - but might get a fix next month.
As for food in China, I have passed on sampling dog ... about the only strange things I've eaten have been eel, scorpion and a sea slug. Was not a fan of the sea slug. |

Many un nameable things from the sea (raw) kinda like sea urchins (which I might have eaten too), live fish (not chopped up live fish, actual whole live fishes, they were pretty small though), chopped up semi-live squid and eel (it keeps moving after its been chopped up). An octopuses ink sack (gross). Oh yeah, I forgot about jellyfish too.
Dog, snails, chickens feet, those butterfly larvae things (also gross), intestines filled with blood and noodles. I tried to eat a cigarette once but had to immediately spit it out, that was pretty painful. |

Can't really say eaten, but I've tasted wet dog food, and a dog bone before.
Looks like hash (corned beef & tomatoes), and tastes like it too |

When I was a kid (and I mean pre-school age), I had this strange appreciation for washing powder. Not just any washing powder though - it had to be Arial, and preferably wet from the washing machine drawer.
Still, I have a friend who used to eat coal... at least, my snack of choice maintained a clean and sparkly constitution "Ha! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear." Edmund Blackadder, circa 1766 |

Baby bumble bees. There's a restaurant in London that serves them on honeycomb ice cream, the same place I had the scorpion. The bumble bees are surprisingly soft, unlike locusts and scorpions, which are crunchy and nutty.
Kangaroo I've had a few times. You can buy kangaroo steaks in places like the Selfridges food hall. Oh, I almost forgot: I ate bear paté last month! No shit. It came in a tin from Finland; quite gamey, strong-tasting. The tin had a bear on it and everything. gibberish |

I think had fried octopus once but that's about it. Had a bit of alligator in New Orleans too, if I remember right.

Haggis is probably the "weirdest" I've done, if only because you don't see it but extremely rarely in Ohio/Michigan.

1. I'm sure you know some people here would be a bit displeased with that and you are trying to take advantage of that 2. Dogs are amazing and intelligent animals that are very loyal and not a suitable option for food in my opinion. 3. Dogs used as meat in China and Asia are treated like absolute shit and it's disgusting. Last edited by Brave Ulysses : 2006-04-09 at 11:52. |
