I'm a huge Ska fan... and so is HOM if you ever get a chance to chat with him about Ska.

90% of the music on my computer is Ska... and I just can't get enough.
I listened to a lot of Ska around '96 - '97 but once the national popularity died down so did the frequency of quality acts coming to my town. I agree that the Skatalites really know how to throw it down, they played two 45 min. sets when I saw them and I danced till my legs turned to jelly. If you haven't heard Laurel Aitken I'd suggest you check his stuff out, he was a pioneering Jamaican artist and is probably my favorite.

Also, if there are any Pixies fans on AN they're playing tonight on Letterman.

Never heard it, although Krokus did a decent cover of it.

"White People" is an excellent follow up to "So How's Your Girl..."

Unwelcome Guest. Billy Bragg and Wilco. Mermaid Avenue.

It's an album of previously unrecorded Woody Guthrie tunes. There's a second volume I'm thinking about picking up some time too.

MPR news and information station-Midday, some annoying state Republican education commissioner talking about how she's going to fuck up our public schools even more than they already are.

Holy Shit. I remember when that album hit the shelves. A nice bookend to what I consider to be the best 3 albums ever released in sequence by any band (Faith > Seventeen Seconds > Pornography). Incredible Stuff.

So it goes.

My Five Favorite Bands of All Time (For Now)
5.) Jet ("Be My Girl," "Cold Hard Bitch")
4.) Goldfinger ("Spokesman," "Superman," "99 Red Balloons")
3.) Rage Against the Machine ("Wake Up," "Calm Like a Bomb," "Guerilla Radio," "Ashes in the Fall")
2.) Brand New (the entire album "Your Favorite Weapon")
1.) Garbage (For eight years (I feel old!) I've been a fan of pretty much everything they've ever done...even the album "beautifulgarbage" )

Honorable mentions include Moby, Something Corporate, Green Day...just haven't heard enough of them.

I also dig a lot of film and game music, both soundtracks and scores...in no particular order:

A) The "Donnie Darko" score and soundtrack - the "Donnie's head is screwing up" theme, "Manipulated Dead/Slipping Away," is awesome, as is the theme for Gretchen Ross, appropriately titled "Gretchen Ross." The 80's tunage is great. I haven't heard the Director's Cut tunes, though...

B) The Matrix Trilogy soundtracks and scores...

C) The soundtracks from the game series "Final Fantasy"...especially the hauntingly beautiful "One Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII. If you still think game music is composed of bleeps and bloops, download it...you're in for a hell of a surprise.

D) Speaking of game music, one of my favorite soundtracks (period) is that of a quirky Japanese game called Katamari Damacy. It has the trippiest techno tunage of all time and forever, the end. I will NEVER get "Wanda Wanda" out of my head. EVER.

E) Inexplicably, the main themes from "A Color Purple" (the mailbox theme, not the vocal one) and, er, the Harry Potter films (doo dee doo doo doo DOO doo doo...AAAAHH! *bangs head to keyboard*).

OK, now that you officially know waaay too much about my listening life, I'll shut up.
