Yeah, I ran it again to double check. It's just the connection to the Ft. Lauderdale server it seems, the Miami server gets a more reasonable result. I think they're still Craptastic though. |

Have you seen the women at Dook? We need porn. What else are we supposed to fantasize about? It's certainly not those non-existent cute girls at the local coffeshop, that's for sure.

My super-wimpy town-wide wireless. We're paying for 1M/256k... Only other thing offered is DSL, but we're the last house with access to the service, so it cuts out all the time [so we dumped it]. On the plus side, my ToS are nonexistent... I can run servers, torrent... Pretty much whatever I want. I really have nothing to put here, but I feel it's rather strange to not have one. |

My ISP has just announced that they will double the speed of our cable connection from 10Mbps to 20Mbps, but only if we move to their new plans. So basically we lose half of our download limit and they start metering our uploads... I'm thinking it could be worth it though coz I don't think we're using that much of our downloads these days... Oh and there's no way in hell we're moving to "Fusion" - the plan where they've introduced 'excess' charges of $150 per gigabyte. They're kind enough to shape you once you've gone 2GB over though... Arseholes. They used to be the "good guys".

My friends in Georgia with Comcast get basically triple the upload speed that I do (I get 384Kbps, give or take). I know this because they can easily host 18 player COD4 matches on their 360 and I top out at running an 8 person server before people start getting dropped due to lag.

Not too bad for Insight. Seems that they did upgrade. Once I get to lab, I'll post my results from there as well. EDIT: At UIUC Last edited by ironlung : 2007-12-19 at 16:33. |

My work connection is on the same network as it was a year ago, but I'm in a new office (thanks to a new job ~5 months ago). I'll re-test and post from my home (Insight) connection later. I'm guessing my work connection is just a bit faster. I tested once from home a little while ago (maybe 2 weeks) and got something around 7 Mb (a little less than the 10 Mb I'm paying for). |

What a difference not being on Wi-Fi makes. That drastically reduces my speed. Doing it from my desktop computer which is directly wired to the wall shows just how fast I get. Of course, the 1.5G/week download cap and 512M/week upload cap crimp that...buuut, oh well- it's fantastic for gaming. You appear server capacity or network capped too. |

They do it so we don't use all the bandwidth torrenting/downloading/etc. Which, without the cap, everyone I know would do. And I imagine 12,000 on-campus students all max downloading would put a lot of stress on them/be very expensive.
