I have two external monitors connected to my 2019 MacBook Pro. They're not actually identical, but they are the same manufacturer model, in different sizes. (LG MP59G in 24" and 27"). They both report their name as MP59G. Is there a way to edit the display name?

The reason is I use the audio outputs on them to drive my speakers from the left monitor, and my headphones from the right one. In Teams (which I spend a lot of time on) I frequently have to switch between them, but I always seem to guess incorrectly the first time. If they had unique names, it would be a lot easier to get it right first time.

So, can I change the display names? I tried clicking things in Settings but can't find a way.

Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1, 2019 Intel MacBook Pro. Monitors are connected via a CalDigit Mini Dock on USBC

Haven’t tried this myself, but someone made something for terminal. I can vet this app, so use at your own risk.

Gah, looks like Teams pulls its names from the list of Audio devices, not the monitor names themselves (although they're the same). Anyone know how to edit those?

EDIT: Never mind, the fix was to create new custom "Aggregate" devices with one device in each in Audio Midi Setup (a utility I have never opened before), name them headphones and speakers, and then use those. A bit Kludgy but it works!

Just in time for Apple to kill it in macOS 14 for lack of usage.

I was going to say I know what you are talking about. My dock populates multiple outputs not counting the AirPlay options.

For the monitors I have to try each until I get it right. Normally I'm using the optic out though so it has never really been a problem for me. Nice to know there is an option to custom name them though.
