Bump.
I just finished watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 6 (the final season), and I have to say that I quite enjoyed the series. When it was bad it was cartoonish and awkward, but no worse than Lucas' rough patches. When it was good it was rather terrific, as it added context and texture and depth as only an episodic television series can do (as compared to a 2 hour feature film). It answered lots of questions -- regardless of whether or not you liked them. I quite enjoyed the humanization of the clone troopers, and the way that they were such incredibly stalwart companions and only deep into the series do the Jedi begin to question more deeply how this army came to be and their reliance upon an army that was created by their Enemy. Yes, Jar Jar is a ridiculous piece of shit, but he's OUR ridiculous piece of shit and I won't have anyone else ridiculing him!!!!! I mean, except for us. Did any of you complete the entire series? FYI the final season is apparently exclusively on Netflix right now. EDIT: Oh, and there's going to be a new animated series that covers the span of time following the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. ... |

One of the things that I initially hated about the prequels (besides their genuine shitty story lines) was that the look of most of the ships was so different from what we'd seen in the first Star Wars films.
BUT. In retrospect, I was wrong on that score, because we hardly saw any ships at all in the original 3 films. In the prequels it seemed like we saw ALL THE SHIPS. When Clone Wars got going we began to see a lot of those ships, and more, and you began to see the stirrings of the designs that would eventually lead to the ships seen in the first 3 films. Granted, it may be considered (by nerds) to be retconning, but it's fair from a creative standpoint and I think that the producers behind the animated series did a pretty good job of stitching the animated series into the landscape. I hope that Rebels will continue the transition from the Republic designs to the Imperial designs and not simply poop out the old T.I.E. fighters and Star Destroyers, despite what the teaser video may show. ... |

I don't care what the ships look like, if the character design involves much of that fucking DreamWorks sassy face I'm out. Arch adolescents raising one eyebrow while they smirk and say something irreverent makes me want to go on a killing spree, and modern life affords me plenty of motivation for same already.

Listen, I think the character designs of the last several systems was delightful. Even up close they looked amazing. If we disagree on that point then we'll be forever at odds on the series

Me too. A WonderCon clip posted a week or so ago showed some of what you're talking about. All eyebrow-emotion all the time. I hate it.
✓arched eybrow ✓stupid smirk ✓irreverent quip in 3, 2, 1… I absolutely love the animation style in The Clone Wars. Kinda blocky without looking old-school. Still emotive but more… I don't know, prequel-y? I'm not going to like this. I just know it. Although - props to the droid VO for being able to get away with "What the fuck?" right off the bat. So it goes. Last edited by 709 : 2014-04-27 at 14:36. |

Yep. I loved the character design on Clone Wars, because it had that squared off look-- like 709 says, sort of blocky and purposeful and industrial and well suited to the stories being told. This...... this is the harbinger of Demographic Pandering, DreamWorks division. Which makes me tremble for the tone of Episode 7.

I still haven't seen Clone Wars - no TV and no Netflix. I am surprised by how many people seem to be praising the last few season's worth of it. I am somewhat excited by the Rebels series announcement. But mostly I'm grieving the removal of the greatest parts of the EU.

Me? I couldn't give a fig for the EU, but I do respect your feeling of loss.

Rebels seems to imply that more than two Jedis survived Order 66.
While I like sabre-duels as much as the next guy, doesn't this go against the established canon? I remember back in the day Lucas said one more Jedi had survived near the outer rim and this provoked a storm of criticism. Doesn't anyone care anymore? Or are we going to just take a blowtorch to our entire collection of Star Wars memories as kids? |

Jeez, I'll tell you guys: if MY crazy stories ever get made into something as culturally pervasive as Star Wars I'll change shit all the time just to hear fans gurgle!
Of course, I can write dialogue that sounds as it might actually be spoken by humans, so there IS that difference. Aging has taught me to relinquish fundamental beliefs. I'd make a terrible politician. Abysmal. ... |
