Compare the manufacturing expenditures from Q4 2011 and Q4 2012. Looks like they are gearing up for an insanely huge quarter. ~50% more in expenditures should in theory, if margins were the same, result in 69B in revenue. Obviously, we know they are subsidizing improved conditions at Foxconn and the products are lower margin right now, but is 60B unrealistic? That would be 15% better than Apple is advising.

If you don't read asymco.com, you should. Dediu speculated some on the increase in expenditures. I leave you to his analysis.

One more thing about the stock drop, and something I have to tell myself in good times and bad - it's not a profit or loss until you sell.

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

of course, Fadell also happened to be the loser in the battle for mobile operating system strategy at Apple, so I don't think anyone at this point really cares what he thinks. If Fadell had gotten his way Apple surely would not have been anywhere near where it is today. Despite that, Fadell was a great attention to detail/simplicity guy and his new Nest endeavor is cool and growing. It makes me kind of wish Apple would use their billions to do some experimental R/D in other areas.
