I installed iLife 05 on my pb recently. I burned a disc on my pb and tried to view it on my wife's pb. ( We both have 6 month old 1.5g G4 powerbooks) It said that since it was a differned version, I could not view it... Why??? that doesn't make sense. Is there some way to view it? I think its pretty cheap of Apple to do this. So, now everybody else has to update to 05 just to look at a cd??

What do you mean by you "burned a disc" for iPhoto?

Did you just copy the whole library? If that's the case, of course it's not going to be backwards-compatible. The structure of the database is updated and optimized to run faster and with new/different features.

However, the images themselves should move into iPhoto just fine. They're just vanilla JPG files, after all.

Hey Brad I burned a disk of a file. There were only about 30 pictures on it. When I inserted the disk into the other pb, it said that it was a different version and could not open it. Is there a way that I could view the pictures on another pb that was not iphoto 05, or, am I out of luck.....

when i first read the thread i thought to my self that doesn't sound right. i use iPhoto5 with my rebel to import and do some editing. But i never thought there was a burn button within the program itself i've always just copy the file from the library on to a disc of flashdrive, and they have worked for me. But if you were talking bout the library file Brad is right it won't work. Please be a bit more specific if you want better answers.=P

Stevuh, If I knew how to ask the question better, I would. IN my iphoto, there is a BURN button on the bottom of the window on the right side. don't you have one there also??

You might be better off creating a slideshow, then importing that into iDVD and burning a DVD. This way you wouldn't even need a computer to watch the slideshow.

The burn button creates a backup of your selected iPhoto library. The actual .jpg files are burned to the CD, you would just need to open the CD, navigate to the folders holding the .jpg files and drag-n-drop these folders onto the iPhoto4 window on your wife's PB to import into iPhoto.

But, if you have a copy of iLife '05, why not just upgrade your wife's computer as well?

Whoa, I sense illegal activity!

(you have to make the sounds yourself: screeching tires, slammed doors, commands being shouted, a chopper or two ...)

He could have a family pack you know. Otherwise then yes, a $79 donation to your nearest Apple dealer will get you the iLife you desire.
