I saw it tonight, and it was completely, utterly amazing. The first five minutes had the audience in a state of which I have never seen at a movie. The way it was so real-like as well is what made it hilarious- Borat managed to set up others into making the most outragiously phobic comments, it was pure genius.

It had its fair share of turn away from the screen moments as well, most notably the naked fight between Borat and the producer, and when Borat brings his poop with him. Just, just brilliant!

I'm not good at these reviews but it is one of those films that is hard to make funny by describing it really, you need to watch it. Cohen is great, and there are some truly heartfelt moments, such as when Borat says goodbye to the prostitute (these are sad moments relatively

The grand finale will have you, quite literally wetting yourself. Thankfully it is a manageable 1h23m, which means you can change quickly afterwards.

Just don't come out expecting not to be offended. The following will be:

Jews (the pamplona bull run equivalent)
Blacks (Chocolate face)
iPod mini owners (I get iPod, he only afford mini - everyone knows the mini is for girls!)
White people (you are made to look the stupidist)
etc. etc.

Even Brad will enjoy the fact that Borat has an iBook in his hut at the end.

I really want to watch it, although I hear the gross parts are very gross.

Care to elaborate or should I just wait and see?

I heard that the "running of the Jew" part was really funny, and also very messed-up. Gotta like a movie with an iBook though.

I think the key moment for me was:
"What gun is best to shoot a Jew?" And then the gun dealer replying nonchalantly as if it was a completely valid inquiry.

Also saw it tonight. How he wasnt arrested for some of that stuff I'd like to know.
So many 'oh no' moments, when you can just sense what is going to happen, but that adds to the humour. I actually had to stop eating/drinking as I was in stitches laughing.

He had a naked fight with a poop scene? Man that sucks. I was looking forward to it but I have a policy about comedians and movies that lower themselves to excrement humor. I can get that from South Park or Beavis and Bunghole.

Not what you might think, Moogs. Remember, Borat is from Kazakhstan and has no idea how to do things here And the scene is absolutely hilarious considering where he is

If he's holding poop, he's disqualified. Is he holding poop?

I have my limits. Even the concept of Drew's highly scientific poo almanac, is more than my feeble intellect can handle.

Fine its in a bag.

Just watch it, you will understand what all the fuss is all about.

Remember this is a film that got to 112 on the IMDB 250 Best ever films before it was even released.

It's one of those movies that I found funnier afterwards than while I was watching it.

Superb movie, Cohen is a comedic genius.
The scene where the bellhop comes to borats hotel room to deliver him the news about his newly deceased wife had me laughing like I haven’t done in 15 or 20 years.

And does anyone know who the director of the movie is? I know he is a fellow American but I don’t know his name, I would like to know on what else he has worked on because he did an amazing job in this film, in fact he did it so well that by the end of the movie the viewer is convinced that he is watching a real documentary.

Love Borat, will have to see this soon. Glad he found his niche, I was never too impressed with his other two characters. Can't wait.

Here is the driving lesson bit: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ko-41f5l8dQ

You can find the borat fight scene on youtube by typing the 2 most obvious words, but I am not going to link as it is frankly, very, very wrong.

"Is it cos I is black?" Come on, that was side-splittingly funny! Though when Ali G descended into embarrassingly unfunny toilet jokes he must have known the gig was up.

I'm sure Borat is hilarious but is there a moral issue about showing a fake version of Kazakhstan to ignorant Westerners? The Kazakhstani government has, understandably, been a bit peeved.

Its that kind of view though that stops brilliant comedians making edgy films, "who is one going to offend?"

This is a true lesson of just listening to fuck all of that p.c. crap and coming out with a brilliant piece of entertainment.

I guess I should rephrase... I loved a lot of moments from the Ali G show, but something about the character just didn't do it for me. The things he would get people to say were absolutely hilarious, and what he said was as well. But I think Borat is a much better developed character. But very true, that was a great moment in his show.

I like Cohen enough, but not really enough to run out and see this at the theatre (notwithstanding the abysmal experience a movie theatre is nowadays....fucking people don't know how to watch a movie anymore... ). I'll rent it when it comes to DVD though.

Seriously, remove all pre-conceptions of Ali G or Bruno or any of that stuff, I hated it to, but this is different by a mile.

Fair enough, I'll watch it before I make any more comments. It's not like I care anyway: I'm not a Kazakh. And certainly, from what I've heard, the last joke is on the people he goads into making pretty offensive comments (though perhaps they're merely "non-PC" comments in your view ).

I don’t understand why the khazakstani government and its people don’t think borat is amusing at all. The entire movie makes fun of racism and poverty not just in their country, but in the US. It focuses on the stupidity and bigotry that plagues the human race, not just the people of one particular country.
It just happens that this one comedian chose to make funny of their country and ours. If they really wanted to they could make up a character of their own and make fun of Britain, or France, Japan or whoever they wanted to; every nation has their little microcosms of idiocy, and if they were to go to the west end of London at night, or some of the urban areas of Paris they wouldn’t have any problem finding good material. You can randomly put your finger on a map, go to that location, and you can be rest assured that if you ask the right questions and act the right way, you will find the same exact level of xenophobia/homophobia/anti-Semitism etc that you see in this film. It’s just the way things are, and it’s the way they have been for as long as we have walked the earth.

Dorian, your point is well-taken. The New York Times had an article that asked a similar question last week. Sorry I can't find the link right now. You know some of your posts remind me of New York Times articles. If saving the world as a humanist lawyer doesn't work out maybe you could join the London office.

Borat is my favorite Sacha Baret Cohen charter. I mean some of this stuff is priceless. Take for example the scene where he is learning about "english culture" while hunting fox. It is just too funny to try to explain.

My favorite Borat routine is when he goes to (insert redneck state or town here) and gets these backwater fucks to unwittingly start talking about how much they don't like jews or gays or blacks... that is by far the benefit of this guy's comedy. Still, paying $25 to go see Borat when I don't get to see many movies in the theatre, seems unwise. I thinking sexy time may wait until DVD, OK yes.

Still haven't seen the new Scorcese movie and the new Brad Pitt flick (Babel) looks like it might be good / an Oscah-wooythy film.
