As I'm using an eMac at work and a new pbook at home, I'd like to sync my iCal for both machines (input of new data on both).
I don't feel like paying for a .Mac-account as I find it too expensive in Europe (when compared to US-pricing). Using my iPod and iSync doesn't work for it's only one-way Mac to iPod. Could a bit of Applescript be of any help here? |

There are a couple of ways to do this, which you choose will probably depend on your comfort level with using the terminal.
The easiet way to do this would be to be to subscribe to the web site iCal Exchange (http://www.icalx.com/) which is free and publish you calendar there. Then you could purchase a license for iSynCal (http://ww2.unime.it/flr/isyncal/en/index.html) for $20. If you have a mac that is online all of the time you can enable websharing and then enable WebDav (instructions here - http://astcomm.net/mac/hints/WebDAV/) and then use a UNIX script found here (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...ry=ical+syn c). The script pulls down a copy of your published calendar and replaces the calendar currently on the machine with the new data and the launches iCal. If you have your calendar set to publish changes automatically the data on the sever will always be current as will the data on the local machines as long as you launch iCal using this script. If you choose the more complicated route you can make the script a clickable application if you have the Developer Tools installed. After your create and edit the script you can enter - /Developer/Applications/SetFile -t APPL <scriptname.sh> and then you will be able to click on the icon which will pull in your calendar information and launch iCal. I am using the second way and so far it has worked fine for me. Please note, I did not create any of the information above, I have just combined it and tweaked it to work for me. If you are not knowledgeable and comfortable working in the terminal you can severly damage your system by taking the second route. Last edited by mortmer : 2005-03-03 at 13:12. |
