Yes, the shrinking border thing is pretty wicked cool.
For one or two seasons they used a plugin that allowed them to chat in real time, in stereo. The volume would change depending on your proximity to others, and in several cases you could see people detecting other teams nearby and crouching to hide their own name tags and sneaking up on the other garrulous teams... it's pretty hysterical stuff. A tournament would be AWESOME. ... |

So, it doesn't look like it would be too hard. We would have to use a vanilla weekly snapshot server and client with a new world, and to start the game once people are all online, I'd execute some commands like this:
/worldborder set <the starting size> /worldborder set <the final size> <duration of time it will shrink to that size> /spreadplayers <x> <z> <minimum spread distance> <maximum spread distance> true <list of players> It could work for team play or every-man-for-himself style. I'd also punch up a bunch of /scoreboard commands to get some rankings up. The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting. |

I would totally be up for this. If we do teams, though, voice chat would be almost mandatory, so that'd be something that needs to be setup in advance (unless you intend to constantly type chat-whisper warnings to your teammates as you're being mercilessly hunted down in a cave

Oh boy, BTC has a bad 2nd episode, but it's exciting when he encounters another marauding team... will he survive????
And Auryelian (sp) annoyed me a bit... And I think that separate chats ARE better for teams because they can plan without the other team hearing them... ... Last edited by drewprops : 2014-05-25 at 09:21. |

So far, this season, I'm intrigued by each player's fundamentals. It seems like several are playing quite sloppily, which may be a result of the pressure of the competition, but good behavior shines through for others.
With the world border pushing them all toward the center I am betting that it's going to be a shorter season. One player is finding TONS of gold, while some teams can't seem to catch a break... and another team wastes time leaving signs for an opposing team (I bet they're never found). Fascinating to watch ![]() ... |

Just watched episode 3 with Sethbling's team and they are SHARP. Very tight, no messing around. They may be the ones to watch.

Man, I might have to switch us to that map program. I used it for a little bit a while ago, but it didn't work as well or easy as the one I'm using now. Maybe this is all different now.

In preparation for our own little tourney I decided to watch a few of these.... and it's enraging. Coal, motherfucker! You need it!
I can't watch anymore. I just want to grab their tool and split their skull with it. So it goes. |

LOL which team were you watching, and how soon into the game? (which episode?)
The goals and needs obviously change as you move toward end game showdowns. ... |

OK - here's a thing I didn't get because I rage-quit the YooToobs. If there are, for example, 2 players from the same team at the very end, does it turn into Hunger Games type shit where you have to kill your friend to "win"?

While I feel like I have a good handle on it, ours will be an even quicker pace. Hoping my history of speed running games helps, because I suck at combat, lolol. Mario 3 this ain't, however.

No, Grey. If it is teamed, the remaining members of the last team standing win.

Yes, it would have been surprising for it to have lasted longer considering how things were playing out, but with a little less panic involved there could have been some tricksy things people could have done.
I laugh every time that Bdubs says something... he's like a walking cartoon. Very fun!! Me and Dellphi were trying to figure out when the next one will be, it seems like it might be as soon as July... that sound realistic to anybody? Is there already a predetermined time to do it? It's fun listening to the post-game conversation ![]() ... |

There was actually a pretty sizable gap before this one and the season previous, I believe; at least a few months, IIRC. Then again, there have been cases where only a couple of weeks have elapsed between UHC seasons, so it can be hard to predict sometimes. You're just browsing your YouTube subscriptions, and BAM! Half a dozen new UHC episodes pop up out of the blue.

They took a break due to various updates and MineCon, but had been doing every 4-6 weeks with a couple breaks every now and then.

In the last month or so I have returned to watching the old UHCs that the Mindcrack guys did. They were so much fun – very sad that they shifted to Twitch because that platform isn't well suited for multi-player, multi-installment viewing of a multi-hour long game.
