Hi everyone
I ordered my Quad G5 about an hour after the UK Apple Store went back online after their announcement in New York. I chose a few custom options, namely a 500GB HD and Airport Extreme/Bluetooth and, according to the Apple Store, my order will be shipped on or before 25th November. I was just wondering what dates the rest of you jammy gits (like me) are working with. Cheers, Spin |

You've reminded me that I need to chase Apple Edu - still haven't got any confirmation of a ship date.
Probably too late for you, but you realise you could buy an entire 400GB HD for the price of 250GB of upgrade....? |

Haha yeah the HD is a sore point... bad decision to order through Apple I know
How good are Apple at sticking to their estimated ship dates? Do they tend to ship on the quoted date or do they ever manage to get it out earlier? Your thoughts and experiences would be great. Thanks! |

it was 11/17. then i changed to the 7800gt video card when that became available so my ship date switched to 12/23.

I decided to stick with the basic 6600 card for two reasons.
1. I'd like to get my Quad this side of Xmas 2. I'd like to get my Quad before the MacIntels start shipping |

I ordered my custom built Quad the day after the announcement. I was given a shipping date of "By November 17th". So far this hasn't changed. But I'm not holding my breath. Last year I ordered the dual 2.7. The shipping date was pushed back and changed 3 times. I finally cancelled my order to wait for the next significant update, never dreaming I would have to wait til October 2005 for it to become available.

Same than you : ordered the day later, shipping date the 17. Currently there is no signs of delay "cross the fingers".
BTW the geforce 7800 GT may bring you on huge delays. That's why Apple cancelled the option in the first time. |

I'm sitting on the 18th. I ordered a day or two after the announcement but Apple managed to misplace $723 in my wire transfer so I don't think I made it into line until about a week later. I went with stock everything except the wireless. At least Apple was kind enough to give me free 2 day shipping because the error was on their end.

Checked my order status earlier today expecting it not to have changed from 16/11, but f*** me, the order status has changed to shipped Nov 5, 2005 via TNT UK Ltd.

This is why I stuck with my original order with the 6600 for shipment of 11/17. I figure something else will be out next year, maybe in conjuction with a bigger Cinema (say 42")???? |

I'm in holding pattern to see when they are shipping. I'd like to order with the 7800... but the best bet is to use the 6600 for a 2nd monitor in the future.... so I'm going stock and add more ram. I'll get the 7800 or better down the road...I hope barefeats will have some test results on the new quad as soon as they start shipping! I'd really like to see if it is all they say?

Got it. Turned up about 1 hour ago. Fitted an additional 2GB of memory and have just finished running software update. One thing that surprises me is how quiet it is compared to my Verax silenced dual 1GHz MDD (which will shortly be sold off).

jasonhh: was your order for a straight stock machine or BTO (e.g. wireless)?

Ordered mine very soon after the 7800 was listed as a BTO option, and mine is listed as "On or before December 23, 2005." Good grief! I never thought I'd have to wait over two months for already-announced hardware! Oh wait, it's Apple...
Oh well, it'll be worth the wait... |

Yeah, this 7800 delay is really putting a damper on my mood. I've got a couple of monster projects slated for the next month and a half, and I'd really wanted this machine to help me along.
I'm considering just ordering an additional 6600 to drive my other monitor. Any clues from anyone (Luca?) as to whether two 6600s would be more/equally advantageous as a single 7800 for a dual HD monitor setup? So it goes. Last edited by 709 : 2005-11-09 at 09:20. Reason: morning brain-fart |

Ok, here's the details. I phoned the UK Apple Store within 1 hour of the announcement to place my order as I wanted to use my developer discount.
The Order was for a stock Quad with the addition of BT/AE and the shipping date quoted was 16/11. It surprised the hell out of me to see it'd shipped last weekend. |

What discount did you get? I was quoted 8%, so I didn't go with it.
Please also add your results to: http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?t=263394&page=2 Thanks |

Can't remember the exact figures, but from memory the select membership hardware discount for the quad is approx 20%.

Sometimes Apple really upsets me.
I emailed the select membership support team, and they told me I had to go to an authorised dealer to get the info on discount. So I went to the Apple Store in Regent street. Spoke to a couple of members of staff, who all told me different amounts. So I asked one of them to go a double check. The came back and told me 8%. So I decided that 8% was less than the cost of the select membership, and I didn't want to have to go to the store to order... So now I have purchased the quad with 7800 and 20" cinema, without getting any discount and non of the benefits of being a select member. How frustrating. Perhaps I should call Apple, and get them to sort me out... Cheers |

jabbajon, i remember going into the Apple store on Regent's street not long after it opened and talking to a couple of members of staff about using my developer discount there as I work within 10 minutes walk. Neither person knew anything about it, so am not surprised that you got different answers.
Infact, I think that the only official way to get dev discount in Britain is to call the online store and quote your membership number. |
