I need a new stereo for the livingroom. I ditched a big, ugly HiFi a while ago and replaced it with my DVD player hooked up to some good speakers. It works well. However, I don't really want to pfaff about with CD's anymore. So I think I can solve the problem with some Apple purchases.
I want to plug a 30GB iPod into the IR docker plugged into the telly and speakers. This I've calculated this to cost a reasonable £278. This would allow me to access and play all my music through the telly from the sofa. Apart from the non-scart composite cable issues, can anyone see any problems with this idea? |

No problems really, you'd just have to get up to change songs, unless you got the remote, etc...
You might want to look into a A.E. if you've got a laptop? Thats the setup I have. User formally known as Sh0eWax |

Looks fine, geokker. As Maciej alluded, there are other possibilities such as Mac (preferably laptop) with AirPort Express (AirTunes) to play music. This can be used with a mobile phone and Salling Clicker to control iTunes (and other apps) remotely.
If you are looking to explore broader possibilities - in addition to remote music, you might like to consider Elgato EyeTV with CyTV. This allows digital TV to be watched on on two Macs simultaneously with the TV signal piped from one Mac to the other via AirPort. Have fun. |

It's a good question - I haven't used the hacked version on my PB; the remote presumably only currently works with the new iMac G5 and the new iPod dock. Anyone?

I just want to play music and be able to browse my collection comfortably. the idea of having to boot up a lappy to do this seems like a giant leap back. I have a friend who uses a projector for telly - takes 5 minutes to warm up and it's noisy to boot! |

Eh? I assume the iPod screen will appear on the telly. The components are:

Okay, I guess this is where I'll take my leave, I don't have much experience with this...
