Apple.com

Holy hell. Nothing anywhere else...

http://www.apple.com/stevejobs/

I'm not joking...I wouldn't do that about this.

It's true.

Talk about a gut punch of a thread.

Thanks for putting a ding in the universe, Steve.

We all knew it was coming... just held out hope maybe he could rebound a bit and get healthy for a few more years but wasn't to be. Cancer sucks.

I can't help but think of Mozart, a genius who also died notably young for the period in which he lived. I can't help but wonder what Steve Jobs would have produced had he lived to 90--an easily reachable age today--which would have nearly doubled his productive life.

I was holding out hope all this time, the past year or so. Just thinking "he needs some rest, take it easy...".

When he resigned in August, that's pretty much when I knew. He said he could no longer do it, and I knew, then, it was winding down. Someone like that isn't going to leave unless he knows it's time to do so (he could've done the medical leave thing as much as he needed to).

He knew. I think we all did, at that point.

Not really sure what to think other than being sad, but I suppose it isn't a huge surprise. RIP, Steve. We'll miss you.

The world is really a better place because of Steve, in ways large and small. It's so sad that he had to go this early in his life, but 56 years of Steve Jobs is far better than a world without him.

I always hoped I would get to meet him someday.

He was insightful and intelligent, but more importantly he was interesting, because his insights were and are so unusual for the industry he sought to transform.

And transform it he did. While I'm sure he was dealing with other things, I do hope he got to see at least a preview of Cook's presentation yesterday...it was a parade of number ones. The #1 notebook and desktop. The #1 music players. The #1 phone. The #1 tablet. What an astounding place to leave his company. And what an astounding place to have left the world: he led the world to a place where technology was as beautiful as it was useful, as simple as it was brilliant, and as accessible as it was groundbreaking, culminating with his final vision for the computer as appliance, the iPad, which is just about the hottest thing in the world right now.

Ahead of his time, in more ways than one.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

I didn't believe it until i went to the .com website. UK site no mention, news headlines no mention.

I guess i kinda hoped it wasn't real, but seeing it here i new it had to be.

RIP Steve. I'm kinda lost for words right now.

I used to be undecided.....But now I'm not so sure.

It almost feels like I lost someone I actually knew, in my personal life. Steve had such an impact on the world around us, all I can say is that I thank him for creating the wonderful company and atmosphere he created.

Part of me can't help but wonder if he got to see yesterday's presentation, one last show of just how wonderful the thing's he's helped create have become.

I was driving home.
Got a text.
Then a call.
Then another text.

I was in the hospital last week for pancreatitis (induced by gallstones) and it was an awful experience... getting the gallbladder out next week.

I don't know why this has freaked me out so much but it has

I hope he got to use the Siri stuff before he died. He got to show us the future and I hope he was able to live some of it.

I'm sure Steve had been playing with early versions of products that we won't even be introduced to for a few more years

Same. There's a Steve-ness in everything Apple has produced while he was at the helm, from the astonishingly beautiful products, the humanity embedded in both OS X and iOS, and even the hair-pulling WTF decisions that Apple makes sometimes.

*sigh*

The great ones don't grace this planet often enough.

So it goes.

In a way, we all knew him. Hell, this is what we all do. We live this stuff every day. The man was as much a part of this forum as any of its members.

I propose Brad build a tribute skin for AN.

Just a thought.
